The Jamison family could have been thriving with descendants!
Carter swallowed all his emotions and instructed the nurse, “Take good care of Lauren.”
She nodded. “Yes, sir.”

The next day soon came.
Carter had gone a night without sleep, his mind filled with thoughts of Lauren’s terminated pregnancy. He suddenly thought about the sheer number of powerful people in Draventh. He didn’t believe for a moment that none of them had illegitimate children.
Why was it that the Ravelle family couldn’t stand him having even one? How could such petty people become untouchable in Draventh? How was he any worse than them? 1
Lauren had been forced to endure so much suffering for his sake. He wouldn’t forget any of it. As for the help the Ravelle family had given him… He didn’t think he owed them anything anymore.
Once this day was over, he would officially be part of Draventh’s upper crust.
“Mr. Jamison, it’s time to go,” Glen said.
“Okay.”
Glen noticed the dark circles under Carter’s eyes when they were in the car. “Did you have a rough night, Mr. Jamison? Were you worried about Ms. Thayer?”
Carter didn’t hide it. “She’s been through a lot–facing the risk of a cancer relapse and the loss of a child.”
Glen pursed his lips and said no more.
Liam himself hosted the banquet at the Ravelle residence. People from all walks of life in Draventh scrambled to attend, resulting in more guests than anticipated.
By the time Carter arrived, expensive cars already lined the streets outside the Ravelle residence. When he set foot inside, the guests milling about the main hall turned to look at him.
Within seconds, he was surrounded by people, including business peers who had hurried over from Colburn. They all showered him with flattery and tried to curry favor.
Rhea, dressed in an elegant evening gown, held a glass of red wine as she chatted with socialites she

was familiar with.
Carter approached her, smiling, after navigating the crowd for a moment. “Rhea.”
She turned to look at him, her eyes filled with nothing but detachment. He said, “You should be on my arm.”
She put down her wine glass and smiled. “Times have changed, Carter. You’re the one who should be following my lead now.”
Carter’s breathing hitched.
Just then, Liam appeared. He said, “Come here, Carter.”
Carter instantly went to him, his smile bright. “Liam.”
“Allow me to formally introduce everyone to my son–in–law. He’s young and may have his shortcomings, so I hope you’ll all guide and support him in the future,” Liam said.
The younger heirs in the crowd looked at Carter with indignation and resentment. What right did he have to receive such treatment? Was it just because he had managed to latch onto the Ravelle family?
Carter stuck by Liam and Rhea all night, smiling brightly at all the business tycoons present. For a moment, everyone in the hall could see his future—he was destined for greatness.
Then, a voice suddenly blared from the TV in the living room. “According to reports, Carter Jamison, the Ravelle family’s son–in–law, was seen in Colburn with his first love several months ago. They went to a hospital’s OB–GYN department together…”
Guests who hadn’t been paying attention to the TV instantly turned their heads. On the enormous screen, the local entertainment news was playing.
The report included a photo of lipstick stains on Carter’s neck, another one of him embracing Lauren at home, and another of him with Lauren as they walked into the OB–GYN department together. Naturally, more images appeared, all displayed on the screen with crystal clarity!
Carter’s eyes reddened with rage, and he glared at Philip. “Turn it off!”
Liam, however, acted as if he hadn’t seen the screen clearly. “What’s that on the news?”
“Mr. Ravelle, those are probably just rumors. Someone just made up baseless rumors about you out of jealousy,” someone said.
“Don’t take these lies to heart, Mr. Ravelle.”
