Chapter 312
Carter said, “It’s fine. I do feel a bit warm, though.”
Louie was among the businessmen who had come from Colburn. It was then that the realization slowly dawned on him. Before coming to the Ravelle residence, he had wondered why Liam was helping Carter when Carter and Rhea were about to divorce.
Now, he knew the truth!
He wove through the crowd, making sure his voice was loud enough to be heard but not overtly so. These rumors already circulated in Colburn once, and all of us have heard of them. I always thought that someone was jealous of Mr. Jamison’s growing success, but it now seems more like he has offended someone.”
“That’s slander!” A thin sheen of sweat formed on Carter’s forehead.
He subtly swept a gaze over Rhea. She sat on a single–seater couch, her brows furrowed slightly as she murmured to Liam, “Dad, I’ve heard the rumors, too. They can’t be trusted.”
Carter was surprised by her words. Rhea was the one who had spread the rumors in Colburn. He
wondered if she was also the one behind this.
But judging from Liam’s attitude, that didn’t seem to be the case.
Carter couldn’t figure out what was wrong.
“A simple investigation will be enough to tell us whether someone has fabricated these rumors. If they’re fake, I won’t let the culprit off the hook.” Liam sipped his tea.
Philip said, “Everyone, please take your seats and enjoy the pastries.”
Carter sat to Liam’s left. Liam looked at him and said, “Don’t worry about this. People get jealous. If this really is slander, I won’t sit idly by.”
Carter forced a smile. “Thanks for believing me, Liam.”
In truth, Liam’s faith and protection made Carter’s head ache. After all, the “rumors” were all true! If someone looked into them…
His eyes darted toward Marcus, who hadn’t said a single word thus far. When their gazes met, Marcus‘ eyes seemed to say, “I told you to stay away from Lauren for the time being, but you refused
to listen.”
Now that Liam was zeroing in on this matter, what could they do? They couldn’t make Lauren disappear, could they?

Rhea leaned against the couch, unable to find George anywhere in sight. He wasn’t at the banquet, and Nathan hadn’t told her what he was busy with.
After an hour or so, Anthony returned. “Mr. Ravelle, here you go.”
He handed Liam a bursting envelope.
Liam didn’t bother hiding it from the crowd. He opened the envelope as everyone watched. As the string came undone, a stack of photos fell out and spilled across the table.
Anthony said, “I got these pictures from the media outlet that published the news. According to them, they didn’t fabricate anything. They also said they have proof.”
Carter’s eyes widened. “Liam, these are all fake!”
The guests‘ gazes were loaded with meaning. The intimate photos on the table were impossible to ignore.
Someone wanted to slip away, not wanting to get involved in the Ravelle family’s personal matters. After all, this wasn’t exactly a good thing. He figured that Liam probably didn’t want anyone to know
