Carter clenched his jaw and lowered his head. “I do, and I’m grateful for your help.”

Liam’s eyes glinted coldly as he looked down at the top of Carter’s head. “So, what will you do to right this wrong?”

“What do you expect of me? I’ll make sure to give you my full cooperation! I love Rhea. It’s just that there are a few misunderstandings between us. I’ll admit that I made some mistakes, but Rhea is the only one I truly love!” Carter said.

Liam turned away and pulled out a cigarette. Carter hurried forward to help him light it.

Liam looked out the window and exhaled a mouthful of smoke. “Now that everyone knows about this, there has to be a conclusion to this matter. How about… you and Rhea announce your divorce?”

“What?” Carter instinctively wanted to shake his head.

“Relax,” Liam said. “There’s no way we can act like nothing happened. If we do that, the outside world will think that the Ravelles are pushovers. Everyone will try to trample on us, which will, in turn, affect your future and your standing with them. Do you get what I mean?”

Carter didn’t say anything.

“Getting a divorce isn’t the only thing. You’ll also need to sue Lauren for using your children to threaten and extort you.”

Carter’s eyes widened. “But Liam, she-”

Liam eyed him coldly. “Are you willing to sacrifice your future to protect her?”

Lauren was nothing compared to Carter’s future, but he just couldn’t help pitying her. To him, she was vulnerable. He thought that it would be unfair to do this to her. However, if he really needed to make a choice, he wouldn’t hesitate to abandon her.

“The bigger the spectacle, the better. You need to make your position on this clear to everyone. When the time comes, you’ll be a victim, as will Rhea. No one will point fingers at the two of you.

It was a tempting solution.

Carter looked up. “Why are you helping me like this?”

Liam sighed and smiled bitterly. “Rhea is my only daughter. Besides, my standard for choosing a son -in–law is based on their ability. You have plenty of potential, so I can overlook you making trivial mistakes. That’s not the case for Rhea, though. As a woman, she only cares about how you treat her. You need to understand that.”

Carter couldn’t find any flaws in his logic. Men were rational, and women were emotional. It made

sense to him.

“Building a family isn’t easy, so both of you need to cherish what you have,” Liam continued. ” Whether your path from here on out is smooth depends on the choice you make now.”

Carter felt as though he were walking the plank. Something felt off to him, yet everything Liam had said and done was clearly meant to protect him.

Getting a divorce, though… Carter was reluctant to do it. What if Rhea refused to marry him again once they were divorced?

“Liam, Rhea is mad at me. She might not want to marry me again,” he said.

Liam glanced at him. “Since I made you a promise, I can make it happen.”

“Look, there’s no rush. We can take our time with this and only announce the divorce in a couple of days. It’s just a show for the outsiders, so there’s no need to get anxious about it.” Liam comforted
