Now that Carter had made up his mind and taken action, he was confident the plan would make Rhea cool off. Overjoyed, he threw his arms around Rhea and held her tight. “Wait for me! I love you!”
Then, he strode off and left the Ravelle residence in a hurry.
His proclamation of love almost made Rhea throw up. She returned to her bedroom and took off her million–dollar evening gown.
A maid asked, “Should I have that sent to the dry cleaners, Ms. Ravelle?”
Rhea’s gaze was cold as she said, “Throw it away.”
Since Carter had touched it, she wouldn’t wear it anymore.
After only one day, Carter received the divorce decree from the court. He was somewhat shaken.
Before this, he had suspected that Liam had an ulterior motive and was scheming against him. But now, seeing how easily the divorce had gone through, he realized that if Liam had genuinely wanted him and Rhea to get divorced, he could have gotten the courts in Draventh to rule on it long ago.
It seemed that Liam truly favored him.
Carter contacted Marcus. “Mr. Cain.”
“To what do I owe the pleasure of this call, Mr. Jamison?” Marcus asked.
“Is our partnership still on?”
Marcus was silent for a moment before he said, “Of course.”
“Liam is backing me pretty strongly now. Once this matter with the divorce is settled, it will be that much easier for me to use his connections to steal George’s deals for our companies.” Naturally, Carter wanted to focus on building up Jamison Group.
As for Liam’s suggestion that he and Nathan handle the Ravelle family’s businesses together, he hadn’t taken it to heart. After all, running the Ravelle family’s businesses meant that he would be working for them, didn’t it?
Once he had power, he wanted to take Jamison Group to even greater heights.
Marcus laughed noiselessly when he realized what Carter was planning. “What are you going to do now, then?”
Carter thought about it for a few seconds. “I’m pressing charges against Lauren. I’m going to claim

that she used the kids to manipulate me. That will help downplay my divorce from Rhea. However, I can’t talk to Lauren in person about this. You know her, too, right?”
“You want me to tell her about this?” Marcus was stunned.
He didn’t want to do it, but he ultimately agreed when he remembered how Carter would always soften and cave whenever Lauren was involved.
Two days later, Lauren was still mourning the loss of her baby when she saw the news on Draventh’s local channel reporting Carter and Rhea’s divorce.
She instantly shot upright in bed, startling Sharon and a few other friends who had come to visit her.
Sharon said, “Lauren, Carter must have gotten divorced because of you! I knew he still cared about you! It’s as you said—he’s making it up to you. Now that he’s divorced, he’s definitely going to pop the question to you!”
One of the other women said, “Well, you guys did grow up together, after all. How can Rhea compare to the bond you two share?”
Lauren was delighted. The thing she had been looking forward to for so long had happened so abruptly!
She smiled shyly. “Oh, stop that. I must say that I’m surprised that he actually got a divorce for though.”
me,
She pulled out her phone, wanting to call Carter. Just then, someone knocked on the door. She didn’t even look up, thinking it was a nurse. “Come in.”
But when she heard the crisp sound of leather shoes clicking on the floor, she looked up.
Sharon was confused. “Who are you?”
“Marcus?” Lauren looked behind him while holding her phone. “Isn’t Carter here with you?”
She was so overjoyed that she was barely coherent. “Well, it makes sense. He has just gotten divorced, so he must be busy. Did he ask you to see me? Go on. Take a seat.”
“I’ll pass. I came to give you something, actually,” Marcus said.
Lauren beamed. “Did Carter buy it for me? What is it?”
