Chapter 356
To everyone’s surprise, Kate actually smiled and nodded. She said, “Yes, I did it.”
Gasps erupted throughout the room.

Evie froze. A second later, her hand flew across Kate’s face. The slap rang out so sharply that it made everyone’s cheeks burn.
Even Rhea hadn’t expected Evie, who had always spoiled Kate, to slap her in front of everyone.
Evie was furious and heartbroken. She was disappointed by Kate’s lack of self–respect. “Have you no shame? Get back with me, now!”
But Kate didn’t move. She only looked at Rhea, heartbroken and confused. “But if you hadn’t been so broken, crying every night, I never would’ve gone to that jerk. I admit I was wrong, but only because I acted without telling you. If what I did brought trouble to you and George, then from today on, I’ll never interfere in your love life again.”
Another shock rippled through the crowd. They didn’t know which was the truth.
Had Rhea regretted her divorce and cried herself sick over Carter? And Kate, as her best friend, couldn’t bear to see it, so she went to him to explain everything just to make Rhea feel better?
Or was there something else hidden beneath the surface?
Many began to think that Kate’s explanation sounded reasonable.
After all, over the years, just about every young lady from a prominent family had some kind of rumor attached to her. Only Kate had remained untouched, with not a single scandal in her private life.
Naturally, people preferred to believe someone like her.
At that moment, the last trace of hope vanished from Rhea’s heart. She was completely done with Kate. It turned out that this friendship really was as fragile as glass.
Kate had backstabbed her and twisted the truth to her face. She had used all these tricks that one would use on an enemy on her.
Rhea smirked. “Is that so?”
She pulled out her phone and played a voice recording.
“You mentioned my best friend. Who was that? Kate?”
That was Rhea’s voice.
“Yeah. She told me.”
“Told you what? That I still have feelings for you? That I’m just using George? That I don’t even like him?”
“I knew you wouldn’t admit it because pride matters to you. That’s why I came to you. I can apologize and make amends. We can rebuild this family.”
The recording ended with Carter’s voice.
Rhea looked at Kate. “Tell me, when did I ever tell you that I still had feelings for him? When did I ever say that I was only using George and didn’t like him? Every time we’ve met lately, there have been other people around. We haven’t exchanged a single word on social media either. What, did I tell you all that through telepathy?”
Rhea had physical evidence, and she carried herself with absolute confidence. If she were lying, she wouldn’t look so assured.
Gradually, everyone began leaning toward believing her.
