Chapter 369
Gossip about Kate and Rhea continued to circulate.
“Ms. Pearson is beautiful, kind, and gentle. She could never do something like that. Ms. Ravelle, though, she’s used to doing whatever she wants.”
“Exactly. Kate shouldn’t have to look after those kids at all. Rhea left her ex and got together with George. She’s totally turned into someone who only cares about money.”
The gossip continued to spread. By the time New Year’s Eve arrived, the gossip had made its way to the Ravelle family’s dinner table.
At the Ravelle residence, fireworks exploded overhead in a riot of color, illuminating the night sky above, while fresh snow blanketed the ground, reflecting the lights. The maids bustled about, taking pictures and adding to the festive energy.
Charlie and Lara were there, along with Rhea’s maternal grandparents. Since Rhea was home for the holidays this year, her entire family had gathered.
Arthur wouldn’t return until the second day of the new year, but David and Janae were already there.
The entire family was joyful and content, thoroughly enjoying themselves.
Rhea snapped a photo of the fireworks and sent it to George.
George immediately called her. “You’re watching the fireworks?”
“Yes. Have you eaten yet?”
George glanced toward the dinner table, where everyone was about to sit down. “Not yet.”
The Snider family’s New Year’s Eve wasn’t exactly festive, and everyone knew why–though no one dared say it. They feigned ignorance, exchanging New Year greetings and drinking.
“We’re about to start dinner,” Rhea said, then paused for a moment. “Can I post a picture of the ring you gave
me?”
George narrowed his eyes. “Of course.”
He was more than happy. “Tickets and hotel are booked. Get ready on the sixth. We’ll leave then.”
“Great,” Rhea replied, smiling. “I’m looking forward to it.”
George lowered his gaze. “Rhea.”
“Yes?”
“Give me a kiss.”
Rhea froze for a moment before glancing at the people nearby. She stepped a little further away, cupped her hand over her mouth and the microphone, and let out a soft smooching sound.
“Did you hear that?” she asked.
On the other end of the line, George felt his heart leap at that single sound.
“Yeah,” he replied, his expression softening with affection. “Go eat now.”
“Okay.”
After hanging up, George hid his smile, lit a cigarette, and dialed Frankie’s number.

Chapter 369
Even during the holiday season, Frankie had to be on call 24/7. George simply paid too well.
“Mr. Snider?” Frankie answered.
