When Jimmy saw the number written on the check, he accepted it without hesitation. “Don’t worry, Mr. Snider. We’ll clear out the rest of the guests immediately!”

This island existed to make money, so naturally, whoever had the money could call the shots. Besides, George had paid ten times more than the other group of guests.

Jimmy was about to leave when George’s calm voice stopped him. “Before you ask them to leave, please invite Ms. Pearson here

for me.”

“Yes, Mr. Snider,” Jimmy replied.

The next morning at 4:30 am, a knock came at Kate’s door. Reluctantly, she went to answer.

“Is there something you need?” she asked.

Jimmy stood there. “Mr. Snider would like you to come by for a moment.”

Mr. Snider? Did he mean George? She couldn’t believe that he actually wanted to see her.

“Where?”

“Near the hanging bridge,” Jimmy replied.

“Alright. I’ll be there soon.”

Kate closed the door and changed her clothes. She felt puzzled, yet curious to find out what George intended to do.

As she stepped outside, Tanner asked, “Ms. Pearson, shall I go with you?”

“No need,” Kate replied. “He won’t harm me.”

Although there was no romantic relationship between them, they had known each other since they were young. She couldn’t imagine George being cruel to that extent.

She figured that he probably wanted to see her to make her leave and stay out of Rhea’s sight.

“Should we wake the children?” Tanner asked.

Kate paused at the mention of the kids. “Yes. If I don’t return within half an hour, take them and leave immediately.”

Tanner frowned. “Understood.”

The sky was just beginning to lighten, and the distant sea lay calm. Every now and then, a cold breeze swept across, sending a shiver through the air.

Kate wrapped her coat tighter around her. “George?”

He stood alone without any bodyguards.

Half a cigarette burned between his fingers as he turned toward her. His gaze, almost predatory, slowly swept from the top of Kate’s head down to her shoes, as if inspecting an object.

In Kate’s eyes, he had never given her a look so blatantly disrespectful.

She felt uneasy. “George, why did you want to see me?”

George admired that composure.

“Just to look at you,” he said hoarsely.

Kate wasn’t so conceited as to believe that George had taken an interest in her. Still, having admired him for years, she couldn’t stop her heart from skipping a beat at what he said.

“Why do you want to look at me?”

His gaze never left her face. “To see just how ruthless you can get.”

Kate’s smile froze. “W–What?”

“Come here,” George said, beckoning to her.

When she saw him smile, her chest fluttered, but reason hadn’t abandoned her. “George, it’s cold over there. Let’s just talk there.”
