Chapter 373
Kate scooped Arielle into her arms. “I promised you two that I’d bring you to see your mom. Did you see her?”
Arielle immediately covered her eyes. “It’s their private time. I can’t watch.”
Noticing the commotion, George held Rhea closer and glanced toward them.
Kate’s figure entered his line of sight. He lowered his eyes and said, “It’s getting late. Let’s head back and rest. We’ll explore the island tomorrow.”
Rhea hadn’t heard what was going on over there. When she looked up, her eyes were hazy. “Okay.”
George guided her away in the other direction.
Seeing them depart, Kate didn’t speak but quietly turned back with the two kids.
“Arielle, Adrian, don’t be upset with your mom. She’s in love right now. When people are in love, they get so consumed by it that they can forget about other things.”
Her goal was to make the kids dislike Rhea. Once their impression of her soured…
However, Arielle blinked in thought and said, “I understand, Ms. Pearson.”
Kate looked down. “You do?”
“Mom worked very hard taking care of Adrian and me for all those years. She had no obligation to raise us, but she did. Now that she’s happy, so are we.”
After saying that, Arielle tilted her head up to look at Kate. She chuckled inwardly.
There was no way that Arielle and Adrian would blame Rhea for ignoring them. With Carter and Rhea no longer together, and her having met a good man, it was something to be happy about.
Arielle’s words threw Kate off.
“But if this continues, Rhea might marry Mr. Snider and have other children. Then, she might forget about you and stop giving you her attention.”
Adrian asked, “Why do we need Mom’s attention so badly? We’re grown enough to take care of ourselves. Any younger siblings will need her attention and love more.”
At that moment, the siblings both had the same odd thought–Kate seemed intent on making them dislike Rhea.
Kate was caught off guard. Suddenly, she smiled and murmured to herself, “Rhea really is something.”
It seemed that Rhea had fully won the two kids over.
Kate sighed. “But I think Rhea was already with Mr. Snider all along. Everyone says that she betrayed your dad. I really feel sorry for you two.”
“Ms. Pearson,” Arielle asked seriously, “you actually believed that lie?”
“What?” Kate froze.
Arielle’s tone was matter–of–fact. “Even Dad didn’t believe it.”
If that foolish Carter didn’t buy it, why did Kate?
Adrian stifled a laugh. “Ms. Pearson, you don’t need to keep talking about Mom. Even if we don’t see her, we’ll always remember the care and love she gave us.”
