Chapter 376
Kate realized that it no longer mattered whether the accusations were true or not. All that mattered was that even if they were false, George had the power to turn them into reality.
She could only blame herself for being unprepared and letting him discover her plan.
But she had been so cautious. How could this have happened?
She had no choice but to admit that she was outmatched.
George looked at her slowly. “Well?”
Kate felt like her heart was being torn apart. “Spare my parents. I’ll accept any conditions you want.”
George didn’t hesitate. “If I ever find out that you’re scheming against Rhea again, this same evidence will end up in court. Stay away from her.”
His tone was as if he were driving away a filthy creature.
Kate’s pride was shattered, but in its place, a resolute strength rose.
Her eyes swept over his hand holding the phone. Suddenly, she smiled. “You’re being unfair. If I hadn’t done this, you’d still be blaming me, wouldn’t you?”
“An innocent has nothing to fear. Do you think everyone is as vile as you?” George stood and walked past the cage as if it were
trash.
With Connor and Evie restrained by that evidence, Kate wouldn’t dare act unless she was ready to give up the Pearson family completely.
That night, Kate returned to Draventh, pale and exhausted. This trip had yielded nothing. It was all wasted effort.
A wave of helplessness engulfed her.
Half an hour ago, Rhea had posted a photo of a light show on Instagram. The coast and lights blended together, and the distant waves seemed to cheer for her.
At the far left of the image was George. He stared at Rhea as if no one else in the world deserved his attention.
Kate gripped her phone so tightly that it cracked a little in her hand.
“Ms. Pearson, we’re here.” The Pearson family driver had picked her up from the airport.
Kate got out of the car and hurried inside.
The first thing she saw was Connor and Evie, looking aged and exhausted. Their bloodshot eyes betrayed just how drained they
were.
After decades of living in comfort, they had spent so much time in custody at their age. Even if it wasn’t technically prison, they
had still lost their freedom.
Moreover, the Pearsons cared deeply about their reputation. This time in custody had effectively ruined the family’s name.
“Kate,” Evie called out. Her face was thinner than before.
Kate’s heart ached. She approached and hugged Evie tightly. “Mom…”
Connor raised his head. His gaze was cold as he said, “Kate, stop thinking about George, and stop doing these things, okay?”
