Back in the ward, Rhea frowned as she looked at the two kids. “Philip, check the surveillance footage. See if the kids accidentally ate something.”

Philip nodded and called the maids at home to review the footage. Meanwhile, the doctors worked urgently to treat the children.

Just then, the door to the ward opened.

Carter, pale–faced, rushed in straight to the bedside. “Arielle? Adrian? Dad’s here.”

His voice shook, filled with an unprecedented panic.

Rhea had just asked a maid to contact Carter.

But the kids were in light comas, so they couldn’t respond with their usual cheerfulness.

Carter turned to Rhea. “What happened to them?”

There was no accusation in his tone. Only worry and anxiety.

Rhea looked up. “The doctors said it’s poisoning.”

“Poisoning?” Carter was shocked. “Like food poisoning?”

Rhea thought for a moment before replying, “No, they must have accidentally eaten something. There are toxins in their

system.”

Carter’s mind immediately jumped to George. He wasn’t generous enough to simply believe the kids had eaten something bad by accident.

He thought that perhaps George couldn’t stand their presence and had poisoned them on purpose.

“Rhea, I never worried when the kids were with you. They’re fine everywhere else, but whenever they’re at your place, with all those different people around…”

Rhea frowned. “Are you suspecting someone in my house?”

“No,” Carter said, exhaling. “I’m-”

“You suspect George?”

Carter frowned. “There is a possibility. I think we need to call the police.”

Rhea shot him a cold glance, then smiled. “I agree. We should call the police.”

“Don’t be upset. I’m not trying to question you. It’s just that you can never really know what’s on someone’s mind. You haven’t been with George that long. Do you really know him? If he’s jealous of our past, then the kids might just be an eyesore to him.”

Carter looked at her intently. “Rhea, not everyone is so generous, especially men. Their possessiveness runs deep.”
