Chapter 397
Perhaps finding the hospital room to be too noisy, Seamus got up and left the room, heading to the smoking area.
His assistant, Rudy Liddel, stood beside him, asking in a hushed voice, “Mr. Whitfield, will people say that we’re just as unscrupulous as Kate for doing this?”
Seamus took a drag from his cigarette and shot him a look that conveyed that he was a fool. “Does it matter? Why would we need scruples when dealing with someone like her? I haven’t driven Mrs. Pearson to her death–that’s ethical enough.
“Remember why we’re here–to give them a taste of their own medicine. The things Mr. Snider can’t, won’t, or finds inconvenient to do, I handle and take the blame. That’s my job.”
Rudy silently gave him a thumbs–up. It was no wonder Seamus was George’s most trusted secretary! He was always on the move and handling a million things a day, being George’s right–hand man.
Seamus took a few more drags of his cigarette before stubbing it out. George rarely involved him in personal matters, so the fact that he’d been called in for this meant that there was trouble. It wasn’t necessarily serious, but it probably had too many strings attached.
To put it simply, George needed someone who didn’t care about propriety and decency to handle this. If that were the case, Seamus needed to go all out on this. Besides, the Pearsons were already in the wrong.
This was just a war of words, which was Seamus‘ specialty.
Although his position at Snider Group was just that of a secretary, he actually held more power than many senior executives in the company. That was why they addressed him with respect whenever they saw him.
Ten minutes later, Seamus appeared in the hospital room again. Evie was awake now. She had only fainted out of aggravation earlier.
The doctor said, “The patient must stay calm and keep a positive mood to help with recovery.”
Seamus stood by the door. “I doubt anyone would be able to stay in a good mood with a child who can’t stop stirring up trouble.”
Connor couldn’t take it anymore. “Guards, throw him out of here!”
Unfortunately, the bodyguards the Pearson family had brought with them were only a fifth of the ones Seamus had brought. They couldn’t even move, let alone throw him out.
Kate couldn’t stand it. “I can call the cops on you for this!”
Seamus casually pulled up a chair and sat just beside the door, looking relaxed and composed. “Go ahead. I haven’t disrupted hospital order, broken the law, or illegally detained anyone. What can the police do to me? Being rude isn’t a crime, is it?”
Kate’s face was ashen. “So, you do realize how rude you’re being.”
Seamus shot her a look. “But I’m telling the truth. Does this mean that you, too, realize what nasty things you’ve done, Ms. Pearson?”
Priscilla hadn’t said anything from start to end as Evie’s health was all that concerned her. However, even she couldn’t help speaking up just then. “What exactly are you here for today, Mr. Whitfield? Will you only be happy after you drive my sister to her death?”
Seamus smiled and said, “That would be the ideal outcome.”
“You! You’re shameless!” Connor shouted.
