Chapter 398
It was evident that Seamus was calling Kate a troublemaker.
She had never been this insulted in her life, especially with words like that!
Kate snarled, “This is ultimately a private matter between two families, Seamus. You-”

“You may think it’s a private matter, but to me, it’s part of my job. My boss pays me to handle things for him, and that’s exactly what I’m doing. I hope you can understand that, Ms. Pearson.” Seamus was like a wall. No words seemed to get through to him.
Rudy secretly watched and learned.
Evie asked, “What do you want from us, then?”
Seamus said, “Have your daughter publicly admit her malicious actions, her lack of proper upbringing, and her family’s flawed values. Tell the world that she poisoned two children for the sake of her so–called love. She must swear that she won’t have anything to do with the Snider and Ravelle families from now on and publicly cut ties with them.”
He was ruthless–so ruthless that he wanted to destroy the Pearson family!
Evie’s heart twisted painfully, torn between hatred and fury.
Kate couldn’t take it anymore. She snarled, “Mr. Whitfield, please leave right now.”
“Kate.”
“Mom?”
Evie looked at Kate, her gaze filled with swirling emotions. After a while, she nodded at Seamus. “I agree to your demands.”
“Mom!” How could Kate accept that?
“Listen to me.” Evie paused to catch her breath. She shut her eyes, and a stray tear rolled down her face. “You’re right, Mr. Whitfield. As a mother, I failed to keep my daughter in check, causing your boss unwanted trouble.”
Her heart ached. She couldn’t understand why Kate was being so stubborn–or how she had turned out so nasty! Kate had poisoned two innocent children and refused to see sense!
Seamus stood up. “I’ll wait for the good news, then.”
Silence finally descended upon the hospital room. Kate stood there in a daze.
“Kate, did you really do it?” Evie asked.
Kate’s mind went blank.
“The poisoning… Making those two children end up in the hospital due to poisoning–did you do it?” Evie pressed. Her tone wasn’t one of interrogation. It was as if she were just asking Kate a normal question.
Kate didn’t answer.
Priscilla’s expression turned ugly. “Kate, don’t tell me that it really was you.”
In the cutthroat world of business, schemes and betrayals were the norm, but harming children over matters of the heart or marriage prospects was chilling.
Kate was supposed to be the sweetest and gentlest young lady… Still, her silence was answer enough.
Evie didn’t get angry or reprimand Kate. Instead, she took her hand and smiled bitterly. “It’s my fault for not raising you right. Now, I want you to go home and get me my favorite dress.”
