Chapter 400
The Pearson family’s bodyguards found Seamus to be utterly shameless. The latter, however, remained perfectly composed. He said, “You guys can head inside when Ms. Pearson is back.”
As soon as the words were out of his mouth, Kate emerged from an elevator. She had a mask on, but it was clear that her expression turned ugly when she saw the reporters.
She wove her way through the crowd and entered the hospital room, holding the dress Evie had asked for.
“Priscilla, come help me change into this,” Evie said to Priscilla.
“Mom, I’ll go with you,” Kate said.
“It’s fine.” Evie didn’t even spare her a glance.
Sensing Evie’s disappointment in her, Kate clenched her fists so tightly that she snapped her nails.
Several minutes later, Evie emerged after changing. She had put on some makeup and done something to her hair. At least she no longer looked so sickly. She said, “Ask Mr. Whitfield to come in.”
Seamus entered the room. “Yes, Mrs. Pearson?”
“The reporters can come in now,” Evie said.
He nodded. “Alright.”
Soon, countless cameras were aimed at Evie, who sat on a couch. Even with makeup on, it was clear that she wasn’t in the best of health. She was skin and bones, and she didn’t look healthy at all.
She held Kate’s hand tightly and made her sit beside her. She kept her expression calm as she said, “I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to the Snider and Ravelle families publicly. It’s my fault for not raising my daughter right and causing them all this trouble.
“I’ll reflect on my mistakes and make sure my daughter turns over a new leaf, so I hope everyone will give her a chance. From now on, no member of the Pearson family will appear at any event that the Sniders and Ravelles are at. We are beneath them and are no longer worthy of having anything to do with them.”
Seamus watched Evie until she was done speaking. After a heartbeat, he signaled the reporters to leave.
Evie said, “Kate, I want you and your father to arrange for me to be discharged. Priscilla, head home to tidy my bedroom for me. It was clear she wanted to speak to Seamus in private.
Kate remained expressionless throughout the entire ordeal. She was so calm that it was abnormal.
Once everyone was gone, Evie said to Seamus, “Mr. Whitfield, please pass a message to Mr. Snider for me. I hope he’ll leave my daughter some dignity for the sake of the kindness I once showed him. She’s still young, and she has a long way to go. I’ll bear the accusations and shame. Is that acceptable?”
In the end, Kate hadn’t apologized or admitted to the poisoning. Seamus didn’t say anything.
Evie smiled faintly. “Don’t worry. I’ll give you the resolution you want.”
Seamus turned away, repeating, “I’ll wait for the good news.”
After he left, tears instantly rolled down Evie’s face. She held a photo of a young Kate and wept noiselessly.

Connor and Kate returned to the hospital room after handling the discharge process, but they didn’t see Evie anywhere.
“Ms. Pearson, your mother went to the roof. She told you to look for her there.”
Kate immediately ran to the rooftop, feeling terrified.
When she got there, she saw Evie standing at the edge of the railing, a bright smile on her face. “Come here, Kate. Take a photo of me. You can see all of Draventh from here.”
“Mom, it’s dangerous there. If you want a photo, we can take it from farther back,” Kate said shakily.
“Don’t worry. I’m not a fool.”
Kate took Evie’s phone and aimed the camera at her. In the image, Evie smiled gently, looking serene and beautiful in her light- colored dress.
“It’s done, Mom.”
Evie’s smile slowly faded. “Kate.”
