Chapter 407
“Thank you for your efforts, Mr. Gallagher,” Kate said.
“It’s my duty,” Zaire responded.
The ritual lasted the entire day, with Zaire and his young apprentice bustling about. At 8:00 pm, as he prepared to leave, Connor invited him to stay for dinner.
Zaire waved a hand, his smile gentle. “There’s no need for dinner. However…”
“Go ahead,” Connor said, thinking that there was an issue with the ritual. Although he was a professor, he wasn’t a strict materialist and believed deeply in spiritual matters.
After all, his foothold in Draventh had been established through a geomancer’s guidance years ago, particularly with his marriage to Evie. The geomancer was the one who told him that Evie’s birth chart would bring him good luck.
“Those who commit many wrongs will meet their downfall. Ms. Pearson, please watch yourself,” Zaire said earnestly to Kate.
Kate’s brow twitched, but she forced a smile. “What do you mean, Mr. Gallagher?”
Zaire’s face remained expressionless. “You know very well what you’re planning, don’t you?”
After receiving Kate’s birth chart earlier, he had seen her dark nature and intentions: He sensed that she was on the verge of causing harm.
“Be careful not to shoot yourself in the foot,” he said. Then, he left.
Connor turned to Kate. “What are you planning? Didn’t I tell you to hold back for now? We’ll settle scores once the Pearson family recovers from this mess!”
Kate’s eyes were clear. “I’m not planning anything. His words aren’t necessarily true. So why take them to heart?”
Connor wasn’t convinced. He warned, “You had better behave until this storm passes.”
Kate turned, went upstairs, and locked her room door. She opened a drawer, revealing a large box filled with photos of George from when he was young to the present day, in every moment and occasion. He wore suits, casual clothes, and loungewear.
There was even one of him fresh from the shower with a towel wrapped around his waist.
Kate had bought that one from a maid who worked for the Snider family.
Like a quiet thief in the night, she gazed at each photo, its back marked with dates and locations.

Tears slid down her cheeks, dripping onto the pictures.

Panicked, she wiped them carefully, as if terrified of ruining George’s image. After cleaning them, she smiled faintly.
She loved him so much. But why did he only have eyes for Rhea?
Her thoughts shifted, and she pulled another box from a different drawer. This one was made of metal and was filled with photos of Rhea.
This box was recent, and the images were a collection of Rhea in various moments.
Kate studied the photos, murmuring, “What do you like about her? Her looks? Her demeanor? Her style? Or her personality?”
Someone knocked on the door. “Ms. Pearson, I brought the wine you asked for.”
Kate opened the door, took the bottle, and returned to the table. She drank heavily while staring at Rhea’s photos.
She wondered if George would look at her if she were a bit more like Rhea.
At midnight, two women arrived at Kate’s bedroom, looking travel–worn.
Kate lounged on a couch like a drunken beauty, her voice husky as she beckoned them. “Come here and take my measurements. Then, make me clothes exactly like the ones in these photos.”
