Rhea had never been this radiant when with Carter. She had always stayed in his shadow, gentle and calm. She was such a silent protector that he had often overlooked her existence.
Just then, Carter’s phone rang. It was a call from Peter.
“Carter, have you heard? Louie’s company has become a model enterprise in Colburn and is now directly tied to the government.”
That meant that, from now on, if there were any medical–related collaborations in Colburn, Scott Group would be everyone’s first choice. Louie had taken the place that the Jamison family had once
held.
Carter’s eyes moved to the big screen again. Now, every position he had once held had been replaced.
Tyler and his family soon joined Carter and the kids. They held various shopping bags, and Mia had an ice cream. She asked, “Carter, what are you looking…‘
She saw Rhea on the screen before she could finish her sentence. She couldn’t deny that Rhea was becoming increasingly beautiful. On camera, her good looks were so captivating that one couldn’t look away from her.
“She… I can’t believe that she’s shameless enough to set up a foundation after climbing the social
ladder!” Leah scoffed.
“What did you say, old lady? What was that about climbing the ladder?” To her right, one of the mall’s management staff members passed by.
Leah wasn’t happy to hear that. “Who are you calling an old lady?”
“You, of course. Your eyes aren’t working anymore. What are you, if not an old lady? And how dare you say Ms. Ravelle had climbed the social ladder? Does she need to do that when she’s the heiress of the Ravelle family? She and Mr. Snider are childhood sweethearts!” the woman said, glaring at Leah before leaving.
The heiress of the Ravelle family? Leah wondered if that woman was talking about Rhea.
Tyler approached Carter and asked, “What was that about the Ravelle heiress, Carter?”
Carter gripped his phone tightly. “Rhea is the daughter of the Ravelles in Draventh.”
It was a bolt from the blue!
Tyler and his family were floored, especially Leah and Mia.
“What?” Mia screeched. Then, she stammered, “S–She… She…”

She couldn’t believe that Rhea, who only knew how to cook, clean, and care for the kids, was the heiress of an affluent family.
Mia’s blood ran cold. She had insulted and mocked Rhea many times in the past… In her eyes, Rhea had willingly become a stepmother at such a young age because she was just some gold digger latching onto Carter’s wealth and power.
Now that her true identity had been revealed, things were completely different. Rhea, as the heiress of a family as affluent as the Ravelles, had willingly married Carter and become a stepmother.
And why? Because she loved him!
Mia’s hands trembled. “Carter… Did Rhea… Did she really divorce you?”
Her question was cautious, but then it hit her–Rhea was too selfish! How could she have hidden her identity? If she had told them who she was, things wouldn’t have turned out like this. It all came down to her refusing to let her guard down around the Jamisons.
“Dad, I’m hungry,” Adrian said.
Carter returned to his senses. After one last glance at the big screen, he said, “I’ll take you to a restaurant.”
