Chapter 424
“Mom,” George called out.
His gaze was heavy, yet unreadable. “Gerard was in a bad mood. He had lost contact with his girlfriend, so I asked him to check her place. There was nothing wrong with my intention.”
Cynthia’s voice sharpened. “Then why didn’t you go with him when he asked you to?”
“I had already promised Nathan that I would pick Rhea up.”
Cynthia shouted, “So you just watched him go out in a storm by himself?”
“Who could have predicted that? Can you not shift the blame?” Steven chimed in. He couldn’t take it anymore. “The storm came out of nowhere. George couldn’t have foreseen it. Who could have known that Gerard would drive alone, without any bodyguards?”
“That was my son! Of course I feel for him! If George had gone with him, he wouldn’t have ended up dead!” Cynthia screamed hysterically.
“He wasn’t just your son! He’s mine too!” Steven shouted, startling Cynthia.
“But you can’t reason or accuse like that! George was his brother. If he had known what would happen, do you think he wouldn’t have tried to stop it? You asked George why he hadn’t gone with Gerard, right? Have you considered what could have happened if they had gone together?”
They would have lost two sons in a single night.
Cynthia shook her head. “You’re twisting the argument…”
“Mom, what do you want from me? Do you want me to admit that I caused Gerard’s death? That I was jealous and wanted him gone, so I could inherit everything? Is that what you think?” George asked calmly.
Her chest tightened. She admitted that she had entertained a similar thought for a fleeting moment.
George pressed further. “What if it had been me who died that day? Would you have questioned Gerard like this today?”
Cynthia fell silent.
A few minutes later, George stood. “Dad, I won’t be coming back for now.”
“Alright. Stay with Rhea,” Steven said.
Rhea?
Cynthia looked sharply at George. “George.”

“Mom, if you’re going to use this as an excuse to stop me from dating Rhea, I suggest you drop it. If you’re going to threaten me with Snider Group, you can forget about that, too. And if you want to be Kate’s weapon and hurt me and the woman I love most in her place…”
George finally turned to meet her gaze. “If that were the case, I’d rather have been the one who died
in that storm.
Cynthia felt as if her heart had been stabbed.
George walked away.
Cynthia collapsed back into her chair.
Both her sons loved their girlfriends obsessively. One lost his life, and the other actually wanted to go
head–to–head with her.
What was the point of giving birth to them?
