Chapter 456
“Hello?” Sawyer’s deep voice came through the phone.
“This is Kate.”
Sawyer glanced at the number on his screen. “Yes, Ms. Pearson?”
Kate’s tone was gentle. “Thanks for helping me get the job. I start tomorrow, and I was wondering if 1 could take you out to lunch or dinner to show my appreciation.”
“No need for that. Once you’re settled in, I’ll treat you,” Sawyer said.
Kate smiled and didn’t press the matter. “That’s fine too.”
With that, she hung up.
She thought that she couldn’t push Sawyer too hard. After all, he might be her only hope at this point.
In her mind, men tended to favor a particular type–women who were gentle, beautiful, and intelligent, and who made them feel superior.
Kate wasn’t narcissistic, but she truly believed that she was capable of filling that role.
If Sawyer could help her crush Rhea, she didn’t mind marrying him.
That evening, Damian sat waiting in a restaurant. He had invited Rhea to dinner.
“Ms. Ravelle.” He stood when he saw her. “Congratulations on your engagement, Ms. Ravelle.”
“Thank you, Mr. Frost,” Rhea politely replied.
“Please, have a seat. You’re starting work tomorrow. Is there anything you need help with?” he asked.
He personally handled matters that involved Rhea. One reason was Liam, and the other was that he had heard stories about Rhea’s younger days.
This prodigious young lady had suddenly married beneath her, then just as suddenly divorced, and was now making headlines with her engagement to George.
Despite all that, she was still in her prime.
No matter the reason, Damian wanted to treat Rhea with care and respect, so he personally came to
check in.

“I’m ready, Mr. Frost. Rest assured. I’ll do my best at work,” Rhea replied confidently, with no hint.
of nervousness.
Damian brought up some of the current trends in the industry, and Rhea responded with ease. She had opinions on every field, and her remarks were sharp and incisive. And when it came to the future, she seemed to have already a clear idea of the path she wanted to take.
Damian was pleased. Who wouldn’t want a talented employee, especially one with such a background?
When Damian returned home, he called Eden.
“Mr. Frost.
“Have you met Kate?” Damian asked.
“Yes, we talked briefly,” Eden replied.
Damian sighed. “I just don’t know if putting them together is a good idea.”
Everyone in Draventh was aware of Rhea and Kate’s history. But this was Sawyer’s decision.
Damian couldn’t figure him out, but he hoped that the two young ladies could at least coexist peacefully with each other.
On Monday morning, Kate arrived at Solaris Ventures. Eden had already taken care of her onboarding paperwork the day before.
When the team learned that she was the new project team translator, they simply offered her polite
smiles.
“The new project director is here.”
The team immediately stood and turned to the hallway.
Kate adjusted her clothes, making sure she looked composed and professional before meeting her
future boss.
Soon, high–heeled footsteps echoed down the corridor.
Kate was puzzled, wondering if that was the female secretary.
But a second later, her eyes widened in shock. She drew in a sharp breath as her nails sank sharply into her palm.
