Chapter 457
Kate hadn’t expected Rhea to be at Solaris Ventures, much less as her boss.
Why? Why did Rhea always end up one step above her?
Rhea pulled her gaze away and scanned the eight people gathered around. “Please call everyone from the project team to the conference room. We’ll have a quick meeting.”
She was essentially a nepotism hire, brought in as Solaris Ventures‘ domestic project director, so it was only right to greet the other team members.
She had never really worked in an office before, but she had heard enough about how employees at Evercorn Capital usually behaved. It was likely that many people would take issue with her presence
due to her connections.
“Yes, Ms. Ravelle.” Her new secretary, Gloria Phelps, was a sweet–looking young lady.
The team headed for the conference room first.
Instead of stopping by her office, Rhea leaned against a cubicle divider with one hand and looked straight at Kate. “You’re the translator?”
Kate clasped her hands lightly in front of her. Her smile was faint as she replied, “Yes.”
That meant that she would be following Rhea around from now on.
However, she also knew that Rhea was highly skilled with languages, able to speak nearly as many languages as she did. Most of the time, there would be little need for her to translate Albish.
Rhea only gave a small nod and walked off toward the conference room.
Kate stood there for a long while, staring at the floor, lost in thought. Her face gradually drained of
color.
After some time, she finally pulled herself together, straightened her back, and walked toward the conference room, smiling.
Still, she thought that it wasn’t so bad to end up as colleagues.
Outside the conference room, Kate pushed the door open and stepped in.
Dozens of employees turned toward her at once, and the room went silent.
Rhea’s speech was interrupted. She looked up.
Kate froze. “I…”

How had everyone gathered so quickly? It seemed that they had already started the meeting without even waiting for her.
Gloria hurried over and pulled Kate back out. “M–Ms. Pearson, you don’t need to be here.”
With that, she went right back inside.
Kate stood rooted to the spot, heat crawling up her cheeks.
She didn’t know what the hell that was supposed to mean. Was Rhea already isolating her on the very first day?
Anger shot straight to Kate’s head, but she swallowed it down. Turning on her heel, she headed for the pantry.
A few women were inside chatting when she walked in. One of them looked over. “You’re the new translator, right?”
This was a branch of Solaris Ventures. The main headquarters was located abroad.
Most of the employees had only returned to Dalea this year to take up their posts, so they weren’t
familiar with local affairs.
Both Damian’s and Sawyer’s companies had been foreign firms brought into Dalea earlier this year.
Kate smiled politely. “That’s me.”
