Gisselle shot Kate a look, silently telling her to watch the chaos unfold.

Her other colleagues quietly shuffled over to Kate and Gisselle’s side. One of them whispered, “Is that Ms. Ravelle’s ex–husband’s first love?”

Kate nodded. “Yeah, but I barely know her. There must be some misunderstanding between her and Rhea.”

No sooner had the words left her lips than Rhea’s cold voice came through. “Did Kate reach out to you late at night, give you my work address, and send you running here to yell nonsense, so that everyone here isolates and misunderstands me?”

Lauren’s pupils constricted.

Kate felt a chill run up her spine. That was precisely what had happened.

The colleagues who heard Rhea’s words turned to Kate in confusion. They didn’t know what was going on.

but Frowning, Kate stood, her expression open and innocent. “Rhea, I know you have issues with me, you can’t suspect me of everything. I’ve never involved myself in whatever happened between you two.”

“Really?”

Rhea suddenly grew impatient. Without warning, she grabbed Lauren by the collar and slammed her down onto a chair belonging to a translation team member.

Lauren nearly choked from the force. She was intimidated by Rhea’s expressionless face.

Smiling, Rhea stared at her. “Does Kate have dirt on you? Did she force you to come harass me? If you pulled it off, she’d pay you a hefty sum and then delete the evidence in front of you–is that it?”

Lauren’s eyes went wide.

This was turning into a bigger mess than she imagined.

Kate’s expression shifted. She caught the gazes of the people around her. “Rhea, am I really that vile in your eyes? I’ve held back every step of the way. Why are you still pushing me?”

However, Rhea ignored her entirely.

Leaning slightly on a desk, she bent toward Lauren and whispered, “I’ll tell you something. There’s no way any of your dirt could be in someone else’s hands. When Mr. Hopper gave me the evidence, I deleted it right in front of him.”

“Funny enough, my brother knows a bank owner. Last weekend, I attended a meeting there and saw Mr. Pearson using his villa to secure a loan. Besides that, the Pearsons don’t have any other property to mortgage. So how exactly is she supposed to pay you?”

The Pearson family was now nothing but an empty shell.

Lately, Connor had been liquidating assets to network, make contacts, and promote the new projects he had bought from others.

All of this spending was one–sided, with nothing coming back in immediately. Turning those projects into profit would take quite a while.

With every single word Rhea spoke, Lauren felt her chest tighten. She jumped up and stormed toward Kate, roaring, “You lied to me! You tricked me!”

She already had nowhere to turn, and yet Kate actually had the nerve to deceive her.

Frightened, Kate stumbled back, looking weak and frail. “Don’t listen to her… Wait… Miss, I don’t even know you!”

Gisselle and the others rushed to shield her. “What are you doing? You can’t act out here!”

Rhea shrugged off the crumpled jacket Lauren had pulled on and tossed it in the trash.
