Chapter 475
Kate froze mid–swing and turned to look at Connor.
In her eyes lingered a dark, brooding emotion, like a storm of black mist that refused to disperse. Beneath that mist, faint traces of blood seemed to drift and swirl.
“I’m wasting money?” she asked hoarsely.
Connor, taken aback by how she looked, frowned. “Look at yourself. You drink when you have nothing to do and smash things when you’re upset. Where’s the slightest trace of a proper lady? Can you even afford to replace everything you’ve broken?
“You’ve barely started working, haven’t made a dime, and you’re already tearing up the house!”
Connor had already been stewing in frustration all day.
The words seemed to set Kate off. She hurled the crystal ornament in her hand hard against the floor, leaving a noticeable dent in the solid wood.
“You think I wanted to work? It’s only because you’re too useless to hold our family together, so you shoved me out there! Which respectable family depends on their daughter to carry the family name?”
Connor lunged forward and struck her without mercy. He hit with everything he had.
Kate collapsed to the floor, and her cheek swelled instantly.
Lance rushed over and helped her to her feet. “Ms. Pearson…”
Connor jabbed a finger at her. “If you’re ashamed of the Pearson name, you can leave. Go. I’ll adopt a stepdaughter and introduce her to Sawyer.”
Kate’s pupils trembled violently.
What did he just say?
The man standing before her felt like a stranger, nothing like the calm, gentle figure he had been when Evie was still alive.
He was selfish, cold, and utterly ruthless. Kate felt ice run through her veins.
“No wonder…” She sneered. “No wonder you could do such disgusting things when you were young. It wasn’t ignorance on my part. I genuinely underestimated you.”
“You…” Connor flew into a rage and raised his hand again.
Lance scrambled to block him. “Mr. Pearson!”

“Let him do it!” Kate’s voice was icy as she said, “I’d like to see what kind of stepdaughter you can
find to save the Pearson name.
Connor’s face turned red with fury.
Lance quickly hustled him away to fetch medicine and calm him down.
The day seemed cursed for Kate. Everything turned against her.
Sawyer still hadn’t replied to her messages.
Kate had assumed that by working at the same company as Rhea, she could damage Rhea’s reputation and, in turn, strain Liam and Damian’s relationship.
Gradually, Liam’s social circle would come to know just what a terrible daughter he had. But her every move hit resistance. Everyone seemed set against her.
It seemed like she needed to firm up her position as Sawyer’s girlfriend and tighten her connection with Damian.
Then, she could use Solaris Ventures‘ culture and rules to drive out Rhea, who mistreated her subordinates.
If Rhea got fired for something like that, it would be a huge blow to both Liam’s and George’s reputations.
All of Draventh would talk about her.
Kate was determined to ruin Rhea and strip her of everything, and only then might her own life return to peace.
The next day, Kate arrived at the office at the last possible minute.
She seemed fine at first glance, but on closer inspection, dark circles peeked out from under the thick layer of concealer.
No sooner had she clocked in than a commotion broke out.
“Call Carter for me! I can’t find him. I can’t see my children! I’ve prepared so many things for them! You must know where they are, Rhea. I’m begging you, tell me. Where did you hide them? I miss
