Carter’s expression darkened. He shot Lauren a glare before turning back to Rhea. “Rhea, I’ll let you get back to work. When you have time, I’ll bring the kids to see you. They… really miss you.”

At the mention of Arielle and Adrian, Rhea’s hands paused for just a moment. However, she gave no reply, continuing with her work instead.

Carter had just reached the office door when he heard Rhea’s voice. He thought she was speaking to him, but his smile quickly froze.

Rhea was actually calling out to Gloria. “Ask Ms. Levy to come over.”

Gloria snapped back to attention. “Yes, Ms. Ravelle.”

The whole ordeal had dragged on for more than half an hour.

On her way to Rhea’s office with the project proposal, Annie noticed the group of employees still whispering among themselves. She swept her gaze over them and snapped, “Do you all want your pay docked?”

Even though they weren’t on her team, Annie was still a team leader. Her warning worked. Everyone quickly returned to hunch over their desks.

After Annie entered Rhea’s office, Camilla arrived at the translation team’s work area. Her cold gaze moved across the group, her displeasure plain.

“Gisselle.”

Gisselle rose at once. “Yes, Ms. Hurst.”

“You seem to enjoy playing the hero.”

Gisselle frowned. “Ms. Hurst, Kate is our colleague. She was being bullied-

“Do you know all about what went on between them? Were you involved? Or were you there to witness it? How can you be so sure who was right and who was wrong? If you’re so eager to fight for justice, forget working in the translation industry. Go get yourself a law degree.”

Camilla’s words were laced with mockery.

Gisselle’s cheeks burned, but she stood her ground. “So, should we just sit back and watch a colleague get picked on? Let people throw their weight around and say nothing?”

“Who threw their weight around?” Camilla asked.

Gisselle fell silent, but her gaze flicked toward Rhea’s office.

“She knew that Kate was new and was already swamped with work, but she still made her translate extra documents and demanded them to be completed by the next day. If that’s not picking on her, then what is?” Gisselle pressed.

“Kate’s been here for days already. Shouldn’t she have taken on actual work by now? And what has she actually done? Her translations are riddled with errors, and the page order was a mess. I had to reorganize them personally! Were any of you this sloppy when you first started?”

Camilla’s words gradually brought some of the team members back to their senses.

It was true. Back then, each of them had been swamped, juggling tasks left and right.

As newcomers, they needed to prove themselves, learn quickly, and adapt to the work environment.

It was normal for new employees to have heavier workloads, but most of it consisted of menial tasks, like wrapping up work for more experienced colleagues or handling preparatory duties.
