Chapter 490
The HR department had heard about the recent commotion, but they didn’t know the other two key players involved.
Carter’s interviewer was Melanie Parker, the HR director at Solaris Venture.
She had personally decided to handle his interview for two reasons. First, his résumé stood out among the dozens they had reviewed.
Second…
After Solaris Ventures had entered Draventh earlier in the year, along with a wave of foreign companies, they had done a quick survey of the local corporate landscape.
The name Jamison Group kept coming up.
As for the personal drama swirling around Carter, Melanie hadn’t looked into it, and she didn’t have
the time to.
“Mr. Jamison, what do you consider your greatest strength?” Melanie asked.
For Carter, it was experience, of course, though it wasn’t investment experience.
However, he didn’t answer that. Instead, he said, “Connections. The way of getting information.”
For someone in the investment industry, that was perhaps the most valuable asset of all.
Melanie followed up, “Do you have any opinions on Solaris Ventures‘ corporate culture?”
“I respect all cultures. My involvement is only to contribute a small part of my abilities to help the company progress. I don’t interfere in anything else, nor do I concern myself with it,” Carter replied.
Melanie nodded. “Have you done any research on us?”
Carter spoke fluidly, with confidence and clarity.
He had truly built his company from scratch at the time. In certain areas, his abilities still shone through. He wasn’t completely incompetent.
Melanie found herself increasingly impressed.
Meanwhile, in another interview, Lauren’s interviewer asked, “What benefits do you think you can bring to the company?”
Lauren thought, “Exposing fake bitches.”

But instead, she maintained a polite smile. She said, “At the very least, I can replace some underperforming employees and reduce the company’s risk in terms of its investment in personnel. I will never let the company feel that my salary is disproportionate to my value.”
Her résumé was impressive, showing extensive work experience, including seven years as a chief
secretary.
Even though that company had since closed down, seven years without being fired proved that she had some real ability. At the very least, she was thorough and meticulous in her work.
What the interviewer didn’t know was that Carter had fabricated the résumé. The company listed
was Jamison Group. Only he and Lauren knew the truth.
“You can report to the translation department tomorrow,” the interviewer said.
Lauren’s eyes lit up. She hadn’t expected the process to be so smooth. She had thought that she would have to wait several days for a call.
Lauren stood up and bowed. “Thank you! I won’t let you down!”
The interviewer accepted the flattery graciously. “Good. We look forward to having you.”
Outside the building, Lauren stepped out and immediately heard the click of leather shoes. Instinctively, she glanced back, and her eyes met Carter’s.
Catching a glimpse of the résumé in his hand, Lauren frowned. “You’re interviewing too?”
Carter didn’t bother explaining. “It’s none of your business.”
Lauren took a deep breath and put her hands on her hips.
Seeing that she was about to start yelling, Carter quickly shot back, “Yes! I need a job to support my kids! Got a problem with that?”
Even the weakest among the great could still outshine the ordinary.
