Gisselle felt a small thrill of triumph. “Ms. Hurst, I’ve decided. I want Kate to be my assistant.”
The translation team was being split into two groups. Most of the staff wanted to follow Gisselle, as they weren’t thrilled about Heidi being a team leader.
However, since the split was unavoidable, Gisselle chose someone with whom she got along and who was competent. The 12 of them formed a group, while Heidi’s team had only eight members. Fortunately, new staff were scheduled to arrive the next day.
Camilla said, “Call Heidi in.”
Heidi arrived quickly. “Ms. Hurst.‘
“Gisselle wants Kate as her assistant. Any thoughts?”
Deciding how to divide the team required discussion between the two team leaders; one couldn’t
make the call alone.
Heidi blinked in thought, her gaze innocent and clear. She replied honestly, “I don’t have much experience and still have a lot to learn. If Ms. Bowman wants her, I don’t mind. I don’t have time to babysit slackers or underperforming employees anyway.”
Camilla’s eyes lit up, approving of her explanation. It was just as she had expected from her most reliable, professional, and sharp–tongued employee.
Gisselle froze. She couldn’t believe what Heidi had just said. She might as well have called Heidi Camilla’s lapdog.
Kate’s face fell.
Heidi was exactly like the saying that the quiet ones were the most dangerous.
Meanwhile, outside Solaris Ventures, Lauren and Carter stood under the bright sky, their eyes locked.
“What are you staring at, you useless idiot?” Lauren scowled.
Carter gritted his teeth, thinking that Lauren really had gone mad. She was completely unhinged.
She huffed and ordered, “Help me make a résumé.”
Carter snapped, “Don’t you have hands of your own?”
Ignoring him, Lauren stared at the Solaris Ventures building with a fierce, dark glare. “They’re hiring translators. I’m going in! I won’t rest until I ruin Kate!”

Carter’s expression betrayed a flicker of surprise.
Kate, indeed, needed to be dealt with. After all, she was the one who had poisoned his children.
A strange circle of hatred formed in that moment.
That night, Carter prepared two résumés.
Yes, two.
One was for Lauren to apply for a position in Solaris Ventures‘ translation department.
The other was his own. He was also planning to join Solaris Ventures, but in the project department.
With Rhea there, he would have plenty of chances to get close to her again.
His résumé was stellar. He was a former business owner with extensive connections and a wealth of experience. As long as the HR staff wasn’t blind, there was no way they would turn him down.
Determined to start over, Carter finally slept well that night.
