Kate ground her teeth so hard that they might crack as she forced herself to step back behind Lauren in line. She asked tersely, “Can you hurry up already?”

Lauren pursed her lips and glanced back. “In a rush, are we? Why don’t you sprout wings and fly there yourself instead of standing in line?”

“Why, you-” Kate’s chest ached with pent–up rage.

Finally, they boarded the plane. But as luck would have it, Kate found her seat to be right next to Lauren’s. Lauren had the window seat, and Kate was stuck in the middle. To make matters worse,

Carter was seated in the aisle.

The two of them had her boxed in!

Kate couldn’t help but wonder if someone at the company had intentionally assigned her this seat. However, the person booking the tickets probably wasn’t aware of the bad blood between them.

“Excuse me, can you sit down?” a passenger behind her urged.

She stepped aside to let others pass before turning toward a colleague from the Solaris Ventures project team, her smile soft and approachable.

“Hi, would you mind switching seats with me? I’m not feeling great, and being in an aisle seat would make it easier for me to get to the restroom. Is that okay?” Her tone was gentle, and her attitude was pleasant.

They were all colleagues, after all. Usually, no one would make a fuss over a request like this.

But just as the kind–hearted male colleague started to get up, Lauren’s voice rang out. “I’d advise some colleagues not to be too nice. These days, you never know what’s in someone’s heart. You help her today, and tomorrow she’ll be telling everyone she only switched seats to do you a favor. Trust me–I’ve seen it happen too many times.”

Her words reminded everyone of the messy situation between Kate and the others. Some said she

was a backstabber and a two–faced liar who twisted the truth, but others claimed she was the underdog who was forced to bite her tongue and keep her head down.

Everyone had their own opinion on the matter, but one thing was undeniable–there was bad blood between Rhea and Kate. Unfortunately for Kate, it just so happened that the project team all reported

to Rhea.

The kind–hearted man’s smile froze, and he politely declined her. “Sorry, I think I’ll stay put. The plane’s about to take off, so you should probably get back to your seat for safety’s sake.”

Kate hadn’t expected to be shot down so bluntly despite her carefully cultivated gentle image. Even though she was disappointed, she was angrier than anything else.

Just then, a flight attendant approached. “The plane’s about to take off, miss. Please return to your

seat.”

Kate took her seat between Lauren and Carter, her expression frosty. She felt uncomfortable from head to toe. She’d braced herself before the trip, knowing that she would have to put up with Lauren’s antics throughout the whole thing. Still, this was pushing her to the edge.

Over 20 minutes after takeoff, Kate couldn’t take it anymore. “What the hell do you want from me?”
