Damian soon left. If not for Kate's involvement, he, as the boss, wouldn't have needed to show up at all. He could've just left it to his secretary to handle, or at the very least, Rhea could've taken charge.

Heidi went to ask a doctor about Lauren's situation, while Carter stepped out to take a call from Devan. Rhea had no interest in comforting Lauren, nor did she feel like chatting with Kate. So, she turned to leave.

"Rhea." Kate stood up, her voice hoarse and edged with a chill.

Rhea paused and glanced back. Her eyes showed no flicker of emotion. She looked at Kate as if she were a complete stranger. In fact, she probably would've looked at a stranger with more warmth.

"What?" Rhea asked.

Kate ignored the numb ache in her eye and locked gazes with Rhea. She sounded almost bewildered as she asked, "If you can let someone like Lauren off the hook, why not me? Why are you doing this to me when we've been friends for over 20 years?"

Rhea had humiliated her because of Lauren. Even if they had their differences, did Rhea have to be so ruthless? At the very least, wasn't the bond they shared stronger than whatever Lauren had with Rhea?

Those words made Rhea chuckle. She raised an eyebrow and asked in return, "Are you sure that we were friends?"

She stepped toward Kate.

Despite being roughly the same height, Kate felt an oppressive weight, as if Rhea were looming over her. She instinctively took half a step back, trying to hold her ground and meet Rhea's gaze.

"You talked about fair competition when you were scheming to get your way. Yet now that you're the one suffering, you bring up our so-called friendship?" Rhea's tone dripped with unfiltered mockery.
