Kate gritted her teeth at the sight of Laurel's groveling attitude. If Rhea could give someone as pathetic as Lauren a pass, why was she so dead-set on making Kate's life miserable?
It was bad enough that Rhea had stolen George from her. But was that all it took for Rhea to hate her?
Kate was filled with regret. She regretted letting Rhea find out how she truly felt, but what she regretted even more was ever having been friends with her.
"Get me a glass of water!" Lauren wasted no time capitalizing on her "victim" status.
Kate's face hardened as she snapped out of her thoughts. Instead of doing as she was told, she sat. "Get it yourself. Don't think I'm really going to wait on you."
Lauren perked up when she saw Kate drop all pretense. "You're not going to take care of me, huh? Fine!"
Kate glared at her.
"Carter!" Lauren shouted.
It took a few yells for Carter to appear in the doorway. "What now?"
"Pick up my phone for me. I'm calling Mr. Frost to rat on Kate! She's refusing to care for me!"
At that, Carter turned to Kate. "What's your—"
He was interrupted by someone knocking on the door. He turned to see Seamus walk in with a fruit basket for Lauren. His smile was as warm as ever. "Ms. Thayer, Ms. Ravelle sent me to keep watch on your recovery and ensure that you don't end up with any lasting issues."
The second Kate saw him, she felt like a nightmare had come to life. He was the one indirectly responsible for Evie's death!
Her gaze turned icy.
Seamus glanced her way. "What a coincidence. You're here, too, Ms. Pearson."
His describing this encounter as a "coincidence" sent a shiver down Kate's spine. It was like the opening line of a nightmare that echoed in her ears!
Her vision blurred, and a surge of anger burned in her chest. Why did it feel like everyone was slowly turning on her? Things weren't always like this.
