Kate paused for a couple of seconds, like she was keeping her frustration at bay. She asked, "You can't even have croissants yourself?"
There weren't many Dalean restaurants around, and Dalean breakfast spots were even harder to come by. She and Vivian had to take a cab and spend half an hour just to get the food, and not everything Lauren wanted was available.
Lauren blinked in surprise. "I can handle the croissants, but I need you to feed me everything else, especially the oatmeal."
"I'll do it." Vivian stepped forward.
Lauren shot her down. "No way. I'm not eating food touched by strangers."
Seamus, no longer sleepy, had gone to splash some water on his face. Now, back in the room, he played the part of an invisible bystander and walked over to the table. He took a seat, grabbed a croissant and some oatmeal, and enjoyed them while watching the drama unfold, his grin sly.
Women loved gossip, but so did men. When there was nothing else to do, watching women go at it was a great way to pass the time. And right now, his only job was to "keep an eye on Kate".
Watching Seamus settle in, Kate thought that he seemed like a walking reminder of Rhea. He was a second pair of eyes watching her every move!
She washed her hands, came back, and lowered her gaze as she started handling the food for Lauren. As she moved to feed Lauren the steaming oatmeal, the latter frowned and waved her off. "Stir it with a spoon first! Don't scald me!"
Kate seriously wanted to dump the warm oatmeal right on Lauren's face, but she managed to hold herself back. She believed that she would be fine once she got through these few days and headed home.
Once again, she swallowed her anger.
Vivian watched Kate, unable to stop herself from feeling bad for her. This was the woman Sawyer cared about, yet she was being pushed around like this. And what was with that look in Seamus' eyes? She could forgive him for not being sympathetic, but why did he seem to be enjoying the situation?
She asked, "Do you find this funny, sir?"
