Chapter 73

Arielle shook her head and said, I’ll take the shots at home, Dad. I don’t want to stay here. It smells awful.

Carter’s heart ached at the sight of her like this. After a long moment of hesitation, he finally gave in and agreed

to take her home.

This time, her injury had shaken him, so he took it seriously. He had already passed all his work to his secretary

and subordinate.

Still, there was an upcoming meeting at Draventh he couldn’t avoid.

Before that, he wanted to spend proper time with the kids.

Back home, Arielle was resting in her room while Adrian quietly sat by her side.

Scarlett entered the room carrying a bowl of soup, but Arielle immediately turned her face away.

Scarlett set the bowl down and left, smiling.

As soon as she left, Arielle said, Dad, I don’t like this nanny. She’s mean. I want Ms. Berry.

When Scarlett was mentioned, Carter said, She used to be your mom’s nanny. She’s very reliable. You’ll get used to her in time.

Adrian frowned. But Dad, if we have a choice, why do we have to get used to something that makes us unhappy?

It was such a simple, innocent question, yet Carter couldn’t answer it.

Right. He had worked so hard all these years to give his children the freedom to choose, rather than forcing them to endure things quietly.

Alright. If you don’t like her, we’ll bring Ms. Berry back,Carter agreed.

Arielle’s eyes lit up. Really, Dad?

Of course.Carter looked at them both before saying, I’ll try my best to give you whatever you want. Arielle, once you’re better, your mom and I will take you two on a trip.

Adrian perked up. Is Mom back?

Carter lowered his gaze as he clarified, I meant Lauren.

The kids instantly went quiet. Their excitement disappeared just as quickly as it came.

At Westvale, Maeve glanced up at the row of villas. She asked, Are you sure you want to move here?

Even renting a place in this neighborhood would cost a small fortune.

Rhea hadn’t worked in years, and she had cut ties with her family. So, there couldn’t be much in her bank

account.

The house is mine,Rhea said. The developer was Nathan’s friend. When this place first opened up, he bought a few units and gave me one. The handover just finished this year. I’ve had someone tidy it up regularly.

Now that she had moved out, this would be her temporary home.

Maeve followed her inside.

Compared to Draventh, the villas in Colburn felt a little plain. Maeve didn’t find it particularly luxurious. Moreover, given Rhea’s status, staying in a mansion was entirely reasonable.

Maeve settled onto a couch and asked, So, what are your plans now?

Nothing big,Rhea replied calmly. I’ll get a divorce and continue to work.

Aren’t you going home?

At the mention of home, Rhea lowered her gaze and fell silent. She didn’t think she could go back like this, having accomplished nothing.

She had let down everything her parents had poured into her. So, how could she face them now?
