The techs trailing behind didn’t dare breathe. All eyes slid to Zane.

Pressure hung low in the office. Sweat beaded on Zane’s forehead, but he still had to step up and report.
“Mr. Lock, the ‘Jojo‘ Miss Layla mentioned is very likely the nanny at Evermount Villa–the one assigned to care for her.”
He handed over a tablet. On the screen, the nanny glanced around, wary, then a “fully covered” figure–face obscured—appeared in front of her. They seemed to talk, and the nanny was stuffed with a fat envelope.
Finn took it. The temperature in the room dropped again. “What about ‘Sis‘?”
Zane shook his head. “No leads yet.”
Finn’s gaze pinned the footage, glacial.
Snap.
Barely a sound, but in the office–where everyone was holding their breath–it was loud as a gunshot.
Finn tossed the snapped pen into the trash. An ordinary motion, somehow edged with
menace.
“Do we have footage of the nanny feeding Layla things or hurting her?”
Zane shook his head. “Since Mrs. Lock returned, all interior cameras at the villa were shut off.”
Finn rubbed his brow.
Ring ring-
Suddenly, the phone rang.
He answered. It was the front desk. “Mr. Lock, a woman named ‘Lyra Bell‘ is here asking to see you.”
“Send her in.”
Puzzlement flickered in his eyes, but he agreed.

“Keep digging. Mrs. Lock isn’t at the villa–turn the cameras back on. Quietly. Don’t spook anyone.”
His voice went cold. A flick of his hand dismissed them.
The team scattered like they’d been pardoned.
Knock, knock-
“Come in.”
Lyra stepped in–white shirt, black trousers, hair slicked back, not a strand out of place: crisp, formal, contained.
“This is the directive I received before trial. I put it in writing for your review.”
Finn’s eyes darkened as he took the file.
He read carefully–page after page of filth.
“Someone tried to fix the case before it opened. Steven was meant to lose.”
“And you didn’t play along.”
He closed the file and looked up.
Lyra’s face was unreadable “I know your reach in Aetheris. I’ve also heard what Ms. Tess has been
put through. As attorneys, we carry a lot of malice and pressure. I suspect the people involved in her ordeal aren’t necessarily the masterminds–but they’re not innocent either.”
No small talk. They walked straight into it.
“What do you want from me?”
Finn’s finger tapped the desk.
Lyra met his eyes head–on.
“I want to shuffle the deck.”

The next morning, the internet blew up again overnight.
Lyra stepped into the fire herself and dumped every piece of evidence from her phone online.
The topic got suppressed fast, but everyone kept whispering.
At dawn, a wave of inspectors swarmed the Aetheris District Court. The staff looked like they were facing execution.
Tess only noticed her phone on the nightstand late last night.
She reviewed the appellate situation between the Nexus Research Institute and Zack, and Lyra’s brazen move stunned her.
She knew Lyra’s sense of justice could cut like a blade. She hadn’t imagined she’d go this far alone.
After Tess finished scrolling through everything, respect rose in her like a tide.
By late night and into the morning, everyone connected to the case was hauled in and scrutinized.
Tess learned the list of people behind her “accident” was long–most were old enemies she’d crossed in court.
