How the fuck she blew through a million dollars in under ten years with nothing to show for it boggles my mind.”

“We need to give our statements,” Beni waved to the waiting officer.

Haven nodded and then looked at Juniper, “you must be Juniper. I’m sorry she used you and your marriage in whatever nefarious plot she had going on.”

“Are you kidding? I kind of owe her because without her sleeping with him,” she shot an angry glance at Kyst, “I might not have known about all the other cheating. He’s been cheating on me for years and I was too stupid to notice.”

Haven reached out and pushed a hair off Juniper’s face in a tender movement which surprised her, “never blame yourself for being trusting of the people who are supposed to love you, Juniper. The fault lies with their treachery, not your trusting.” She looked at Scotty, “I know you booked tee time today but –”

“Hell no. I’m taking my wife home, boys. She needs some downtime with just me for a bit.” Scotty wrapped his arm around her shoulder and pressed a warm kiss to her temple. “I think a good cry, a bubble bath and a bottle of scotch are in order.”

“God yes.” Haven hugged him tight.

Juniper could see the deep love between this couple and knew immediately whatever was wrong in Denise’s life wasn’t because of these two people. They clearly loved each other deeply. They were hurting because of their daughter’s behavior.

“Daddy, Mom!” Denise started screaming from the room, “you can’t just leave me here. I’m your precious angel. You can’t!”

Haven reached out and hugged Juniper and Juniper’s eyes rounded in surprise. “There is grace in pulling yourself together and moving on, Juniper. Don’t let anyone, even my daughter, steal your grace.” She released Juniper and then straightened her spine, shot one last look at Denise with a shake of her head before taking Scotty’s hand and walking away.

“That poor woman,” Juniper wiped a tear off her cheek. Before anyone could stop her, including the room full of officers Juniper crossed the room to the door of the interview room where Denise sat. “Do you see that? Do you see what you’ve done, Denise? “Shut up. You don’t get to say you just wanted money.” Juniper’s finger pointed and waving at Denise. “You are a morally bankrupt fool. You sleep with other women’s husbands. You berate people who you feel are less than you. You use people for their money. You should be ashamed of yourself. All you’ve done is embarrassed and humiliated the two people who love you unconditionally.”
