Juniper let Beni bring her to the room where Phineas and Adil were already seated, Phin was leaning against the door, and Gonzalo was standing next to the table. Frasier winked at her from outside the room.
“Hey, Adil, where’s my bottle of scotch?” Phin asked with a cranky expression on his face.
“I knew when Scotty said scotch you were coming for me. A friend needed to fly to Edinburgh this week for a golf tournament. I asked him to bring me back a case. It should be here by the weekend.”
“Be careful with him in your house, Juniper. He breaks everything.” Phin squeezed her shoulder as he followed them in.
“We don’t need all these people in here. We only need the four statements,” the officer started.
“If you think I’m letting my daughter–in–law be coerced into writing down something she doesn’t want to, you have another thing coming,” Phin shoved his hands into the pockets of his trousers and rocked back on his heels. “Also, there are three people out there in your main area who bear nothing but bad intentions towards her and I don’t feel she’s safe, despite being in a police officer run building.”
Juniper’s lips twitched as she looked between Phin and Phineas

and knew why it was Phineas was such a bossy son of a bitch. It dawned on her the reason why Phineas still held anger towards his father for his behavior years ago was not only because of the betrayal to his mother but it was because this man was Phineas‘ hero growing up. He emulated everything about Phin right down to the way they both carried themselves and then Phin shattered the perfect illusion of who his hero really was. She made a vow to herself to help Phineas repair this relationship because it was clear from the way Phin was behaving, his unwavering support of his son, and his acceptance of her, was Phin trying to demonstrate to Phineas he still wanted to be the hero in his son’s eyes.
Juniper grabbed the piece of paper, “it won’t take long. I heard the sound of people screaming and noted they were running to get out of the way of the car. I saw the car smash into the other vehicle. I saw the airbags deploy in both. I ran to our car and when I arrived I saw our driver hurt with his face bloodied. I saw Denise getting helped out of her car by other people in the area.” As she spoke she wrote.
“Can we also get your statement on the second event?” the officer asked. “The victim is at the hospital getting her wrist looked at, as it might be broken, but it seems she’s telling the officer there she is refusing to press charges. The crown prosecutor will review the evidence and decide whether to move forward without her pressing charges. In light of the fact someone mentioned he hit another woman a couple of days ago, we think we can get a conviction without her testimony.”

Juniper nodded and then grabbed the second piece of paper. “I saw the girl named Micheline approach Kyst and wrap her arm and hands around his forearm gently. He yanked his arm out of her grasp, and he gave her a push, and she stumbled backwards. She was wearing heels, and she fell onto her butt. She complained of her hands being scraped and her wrist hurting.”
She signed her name and slid it back. She looked around the table and noted her three partners were also quickly writing their statements. Phineas‘ was concise but the way he was pressing with the pen she could feel the anger off the sheet. Adil’s statements were in bullet form, purely factual. The one from Beni looked like the intro to a book, long, detailed and flowing. The CEO, the PI and the lawyer were true to themselves right down to their writing methods.
She looked at the officer. “My best friend forwarded me a video of Kyst last week assaulting the other woman. She was there when it happened. If you need the original, I can call her and ask her to bring it down for your crown prosecutor.”
The cop blinked incredulously, “what?”
“My best friend was there. She was waiting for her boyfriend to come out of the coffee shop, and she has the entire altercation on video. I mean, I will say, the other woman did get mad and squeeze his coffee cup all over him, but he smacked her right in the face.” Juniper opened her phone and slid it with the video open to the officer. “She showed it to me because she was worried Kyst might hurt me in retaliation since he justified his

behavior by saying she started it. He didn’t sleep with that woman though. If you listen, she exchanged sexual texts with him and was demanding he fulfill his promises.”
“Is this guy hung like an elephant or something?” the office asked under his breath.
“No but he is very smooth talking and slick. I bet every single one of those women felt like they were the only ones in the world who mattered to him. He is very good at love bombing and emotional manipulation.”
The officer watched the scene and then he started laughing, “Frank!”
“You know Frank?”
“Yes. He helps us on some cases with the science stuff. He’s a microbiologist and we use him with our forensics team. He’s a great guy. Your friend is dating him?”
“Yes. They met last week and have been inseparable since. She’s besotted.”
“I am incredibly happy for him. I’ll give him a call and ask him to bring her down with the video.” The officer grinned as he slid the phone back. “Do you think there is more than one of these women stalking Kyst right now?”
“They’re all coming forth. It wouldn’t surprise me.”

“I don’t know. He’s never really raised his voice at me, and we’ve been together half of our lives. I don’t recognize the person
he truly is because he hid it so well. It’s very alarming and my family has warned me to not meet him alone and I’m heeding their advice.”
“I agree. We’ll run an investigation. We’ll keep you posted if we find out anything, but I suggest based on the level of his anger we saw in him earlier, you remain vigilant.”
“Thank you.”
“Done!” Phineas smacked his pen on the table. “Hurry up Beni. You’re not writing the next great Canadian novel. My stomach is growling. I need food and Juniper needs to cuddle Buttons.”
