Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 393

Ryan’s hand was strong and steady as he caught her arm, barely jostling the two wine glasses he held. The wine inside just rippled softly—no spills, not even a splash.

Amelia was ready to pull away, but Ryan let go first, stepping back and putting some space between them.

Moonlight settled quietly in the gap.

He looked down at her, tall enough to block half the wall light behind him. His eyes were dark, almost unreadable, and there was always this cool distance when his gaze landed on her.

“What are you doing out here?” he asked, his voice even.

Amelia had no choice but to answer honestly. “You brought me onto the team. At something like this, I’m supposed to come over early and toast you, Mr. Packman.”

She cringed inside as she said it—it sounded so stiff and formal, not at all like her.

Ryan’s eyes flicked toward the half-open door, immediately spotting the deputy director sitting near his empty seat.

So he knows who put me up to this, she thought.

Amelia tried again. “Mr. Packman, I’d like to—”

He cut her off, face unreadable. “Go inside.”

Her hand froze mid-toast, then she awkwardly lowered the glass.

She could tell Ryan wasn’t in the best mood.

Not wanting to push her luck, Amelia turned and walked back into the room, balancing both glasses. She’d done her part—if Ryan didn’t want to accept her toast, no one could say she didn’t know how these work dinners were supposed to go.

Thinking that, her steps felt a little lighter.

Ryan followed, one hand casually in his pocket.

As soon as they stepped inside the private dining room, Ryan’s voice cut through the room. “Ms. Sadinton.”

All the execs had been watching for Ryan. The second he walked in, everyone started to get up, waiting for him to take his seat.

But with that one call, every pair of eyes swung to Amelia.

The whole room fell silent.

Amelia, now the center of attention: This is actual social hell.

Ryan crossed the room in a few long strides. Right in front of everyone, he stopped in front of her and took one of the wine glasses from her hand.

Amelia blinked, completely lost.

Then, before she could process what was happening, Ryan lowered his head in front of her, raising his glass so it sat lower than hers.

Her eyes went wide.

The silence was so sharp, the sound of a fork hitting the floor somewhere in the room made everyone jump.
