Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 137

Honestly, it made sense. They were going to replace her anyway, so why bother with the theatrics?

Amelia dabbed her lips with a napkin. “No thanks, I’m full.”

Daniel had barely touched his food; the table was still loaded with dishes. Violet, exuding the graciousness of a legitimate wife, smiled magnanimously. “There’s so much left—surely you haven’t eaten enough. Come with us, it’s just friends hanging out. No big deal.”

Amelia’s tone was icy. “You’re right, I’m not full. But seeing you is plenty to kill my appetite.”

“Amelia!” Morgan immediately jumped to defend Violet. “She’s just being kind. What’s with the attitude?”

Well, they insisted on rubbing it in her face. Did they really expect her to play nice?

Amelia, at this point, had nothing left to lose. She’d stopped caring long ago—why should she keep swallowing this humiliation?

Daniel’s voice was low and strained. “Enough. Let’s go upstairs.”

But Violet didn’t move. Tears shimmered at the corners of her eyes. “I just wanted to invite you, Amelia, that’s all... Please don’t be upset. Mr. Brown mentioned it a few times, but Daniel...”

She glanced at Daniel, whose expression was unreadable, but the implication hung there in the air.

Daniel doesn’t want to introduce you, his soon-to-be ex-wife, to his friends.

Watching Violet’s carefully constructed innocence, Amelia suddenly remembered the bouquet of white lilies she never got to deliver last time.

This invitation upstairs was nothing but a chance for Violet to flaunt her position and put Amelia in her place.

A moment later, a security guard appeared. Daniel seized Amelia’s arm and pushed her forward. “Take her home,” he said, his tone brooking no argument.

Amelia drew a sharp breath, fighting to keep her composure. “You asked me here for dinner. Now you’re kicking me out before I’m even done? Or is there something you don’t want me to see?” She glanced up at the second floor, her lips twisting in a bitter smile. “Are there more of your ‘special friends’ up there? Perfect. Let’s all get acquainted. Wouldn’t want anyone saying Mrs. Campbell isn’t gracious enough.”

A vein pulsed on Daniel’s temple as he growled, “Amelia, have you made enough of a scene?”

A scene?

Even Amelia’s iron resolve cracked at that. She sucked in a shaky breath. “Fine, I’ll go. Just give me one good reason.”

Daniel closed his eyes and exhaled. When he looked at her again, his gaze was pure frost. “Whoever’s upstairs is none of your business. Mrs. Campbell, mind your own affairs—or have you forgotten your place?”
