Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 138

All the bravado she’d managed to hold onto crumbled to dust in an instant.

Out of the corner of her eye, Amelia caught the smug, self-satisfied look on Violet’s face. Even though their eyes never met, Violet’s disdain was loud and clear—See? This is where you stand.

Without missing a beat, Amelia grabbed the water glass from the table and hurled its contents straight at Daniel’s face.

“I’ve always remembered my place. It’s you who’s forgotten. Kindly sign the papers, Mr. Campbell,” she said coldly.

Without another glance, Amelia turned and strode out with the security guard. Behind her, she could hear Violet’s startled gasp and indignant muttering. If Amelia hadn’t been such a mess herself, she might have turned around and doused Violet for good measure.

Let the cheats have each other—they deserved no better.

Back at the dormitory on base, Amelia sat at her desk, staring at the little calendar she kept there. She picked up a pen and circled March 12th—again, making the mark bold and unmistakable.

Twenty-nine days left.

Whether Daniel wanted the divorce or not didn’t matter anymore. She was determined to vanish from his world for good.

Time to end this marriage—a love bled dry, where resentment had long outgrown whatever affection was left.

After the holidays, people began trickling back to base.

When Emily found out Amelia was being transferred out of town for a new project, she hugged her tight. “If you ever crave something from Silkwood, just call me. I’ll mail it to you.”

Amelia smiled, “I’m not even sure I’ll be able to reach you.”

They were both students in the same field. The Silkwood Institute of Technology often partnered with national research projects—most of them confidential. Nobody asked too many questions. Emily hugged her again. “Take care of yourself, okay?”

A faint sheen of tears glimmered in Amelia’s eyes.

Back in Silkwood, she paid a visit to Mr. Harper.

He told her the court had accepted her application for a second divorce hearing. The date was set for five days later.

Learning from last time’s disaster, Amelia was determined to be cautious this round.

She called Sophia and asked her to stay with her at the dorm over the weekend and go to court together on Monday.

Strength in numbers; even if Daniel dared to confine her, she doubted he’d risk doing the same to Sophia.

The next day, Amelia headed to the hospital for a prenatal checkup.

All around her, expectant mothers were accompanied by husbands, parents, or friends; Amelia carried her file alone, her slender figure standing out in stark, lonely contrast to the bustle around her.

After her appointment, she stepped out of the clinic building, catching, out of the corner of her eye, a shadowy figure lurking nearby. She turned quickly and saw a man in a baseball cap rushing toward a couple holding hands. Suddenly, the two men were grappling violently, fists flying.
