Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 151

Amelia’s patience was hanging by a thread, and only her last shred of politeness held her together. “Mr. David, I really can’t wait that long. You know the records better than anyone—can’t you think of a way to find mine a bit sooner?”

Mr. David had clearly had enough. “How many times do I have to tell you? I can’t find it! What’s the matter, don’t you have ears? Move along, I’m busy—I don’t have time to stand here arguing with you!”

“I’ve got ears, and eyes too,” Amelia shot back.

That was the end of her courtesy. “The records office is supposed to help students. I understand things are hectic with the move, but I haven’t actually seen you do anything except flirt with Tina since we arrived. Is that what you call being busy?”

All three of them went wide-eyed at that.

Mr. David and Tina clearly hadn’t expected Amelia to just put it all out there. Emily, meanwhile, was quietly impressed—she couldn’t believe Amelia had said it so directly.

Mentally, Emily gave Amelia a big thumbs-up.

Mr. David, red-faced and furious, jabbed a finger at Amelia. “Which damn eye of yours saw us flirting? I’m warning you—making up lies like that can get you sued!”

He was so flustered he let a curse slip out.

Amelia stayed calm, but her presence filled the room. “If you think I’m lying, we can always compare the lipstick stain on your collar to Tina’s. Oh, and the fresh hickey on your neck too. If I’m making this up, go ahead and sue me. If not, then you both owe me an apology—and you can start by finding my records.”

David’s face was now beet red. With no comeback, he tried to pull rank. “Unbelievable! Is this any way for a student to speak to a teacher? The very first rule at Silkwood Institute of Technology is to respect your instructors. Seems you missed that lesson entirely! And if you think you can threaten your way into getting your files, you’re out of luck. I run the records office. If I say you can’t have it, you can’t have it. Go cry to the dean if you want—let’s see who’s in the right, a disrespectful student or me!”

Everyone knew the dean was away at a conference out of town. David was just blocking her on purpose, making sure she had nowhere to turn and would have to swallow the injustice.

Tina crossed her arms and sneered, “Know your place, Amelia.”

Emily jumped in before anyone else could answer. “Amelia came to pick up her graduation records. Mr. David claims he can’t find them, but he won’t let us look either. He’s just stonewalling her, and things got heated.”

“Oh?” Daniel sounded amused as he looked at Amelia. “Is that so?”

Amelia had no idea what he found so entertaining—she’d been through plenty of power trips like this, both at school and at work.

Mr. David shot Emily a glare and tried to spin the story his way. “I wasn’t stonewalling anyone. You girls were being unreasonable and disrespectful. If you’d asked politely, I would’ve done what I could. Especially Amelia—she’s got no respect for me as a teacher. If I don’t teach her a lesson today, what kind of teacher would I be?”

“Let’s all calm down,” Daniel said, patting David’s shoulder with a faint, ironic smile. “I know Amelia. Trust me, she doesn’t just ignore teachers—she barely even listens to her own husband.”

Amelia: …?
