Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 153

Amelia shoved Daniel away. The vice principal, face stormy as he watched Tina’s pathetic little act, snapped, “Stop making a scene and apologize to Mr. Campbell.”

Daniel could still feel the ghost of her soft waist on his fingertips. He rubbed them together, a sly smile playing at his lips. “Why apologize to me? Amelia was the one you nearly knocked over. She deserves the apology.”

Tina seethed inside, but with both the vice principal and Daniel watching her, she had no choice but to mumble an apology.

Amelia barely registered the words and let go of Emily’s hand.

“Principal, you two go ahead and talk. We’ll be off.”

Once they’d left the records office, Emily burst out, “Are all men blind or what?”

Amelia pressed the elevator button. “What do you mean?”

Emily huffed, “Daniel seems totally sane—how could he be into someone like Violet?”

It wasn’t just Emily; even Amelia, Daniel’s legal wife, couldn’t figure it out. Her smile was tinged with bitterness. “Who can ever explain love?”

Amelia had to run all over campus getting forms signed. She told Emily to go take care of her own things, and by the time she finished, it was nearly evening.

After handing in the paperwork at the graduate office, Amelia strolled toward the campus gate. Suddenly, someone called her name. She turned and saw Tina, arm-in-arm with another woman, walking her way.

“What, aren’t you married now? Where’s your husband? Not picking you up?” Tina folded her arms, slowly looking Amelia up and down. “Silkwood Institute’s ice queen, always acting like she’s above everyone else. Got married out of the blue, and nobody knows a thing about it. What’s the matter, your husband too embarrassing to show off?”

Amelia had never gotten along with Tina, and today things had escalated. She saw no reason to hold back—especially since, with graduation coming up, she might never see Tina again.

Tina and her friend both gasped, eyes wide with disbelief.

Amelia’s mind went blank. She silently prayed Daniel wasn’t inside. Or if he was, that he’d at least stay in the car.

No such luck.

The rear door swung open. First, a pair of polished Italian shoes hit the pavement, followed by impeccably tailored trousers, and then Daniel himself, looking every bit as striking as a celebrity.

His gaze never left Amelia. He walked straight over, slipped an arm around her waist, and spoke in a tone both indulgent and amused.

“What’s this? You won’t get in the car unless I come pick you up myself? Always giving me a hard time, aren’t you?”
