Chapter 55 Should Ask for More
After exchanging goodnights, Jeremy left.
Catherine went to her study, retrieved a wooden box from the bookshelf, and pulled out a USB
drive.
When the company got into trouble, Adam immediately took the experimental data with him. He knew that even if everything else was lost, as long as he had this data, the company could rise again one day.
She opened the file on her computer. Over twenty pages of chemical equations appeared on the screen. They didn’t look like much, but these pages represented ten years of her father’s hard
work.
Catherine closed her laptop, rubbed her tired eyes, and went to bed. She resolved to meet the research fanatic the next day.
Early the following morning, Catherine waited at a cafe near Northbridge University,
watching students stream past.
A wave of sentimentality washed over her. She had graduated just two years ago, yet it felt like
much longer.
At 10:00 am, a man walked in with a book tucked under his arm. He wore a simple T-shirt and slacks, with black-rimmed glasses perched on his nose. He appeared to be in his mid-thirties.
As expected, the man was the senior Jeremy had mentioned, Kyle Mercer. He walked over and
sat down in front of Catherine. “You must be Ms. Quinn.”
“Yes, I am. Would you like something to drink, Mr. Mercer?” Catherine asked.
Kyle waved her off. “No, thanks. Jeremy told me you have the experimental data for the targeted drug?”
“Yes. As long as you…”
Before Catherine could finish, Kyle interrupted her. “Where’s the lab? I can go there right now. Just provide me with the data and research funding. We can discuss salary and everything else later.”
Catherine looked up, meeting the sheer passion in his eyes.
She had expected Kyle to have a long list of demands, yet his request was surprisingly simple. She had even been prepared to spend a fortune to hire him.

Seeing that Catherine remained silent, Kyle frowned. “You won’t hire me. Is that it? Fine. I won’t even take a salary. I can start anytime, as long as the data and funding are ready.”
“No, no. That’s not it,” Catherine quickly said. “I’m just surprised you don’t have any conditions. I’d be more than happy to have you, Mr. Mercer! You won’t be shortchanged on salary or benefits.”
Kyle relaxed, waving her concerns away. “When can I start?”
Catherine blinked at his eagerness. “Anytime. The lab is ready, and if there’s anything you need, Mr. Mercer, just let me know.”
Kyle had no other requests. His only concern was to start working as soon as possible.
