She and Emma George stood outside the hospital, both anxiously waiting for the taxi they’d just ordered on Emma’s phone.

Emma frowned. “I remember your phone’s still at the Lane estate. Do you want to go back and get it?”

Emily Blair shook her head. “Forget it. I’ll just buy a new one.”

She had no desire to set foot in the Lane estate again, not for a long while.

Emma nodded. “Alright. We’ve got money now, anyway.”

But before the taxi could arrive, a gleaming Rolls-Royce pulled up to the curb with a speed that put any cab to shame.

Emily recognized the license plate instantly. Her face drained of color, then flushed red in an instant.

Before she could even take a step back, Andrew Lane brought the car to a stop right in front of her.

She grabbed Emma’s wrist, ready to bolt, but Andrew was faster. He shoved the door open, stepped out of the car in long, determined strides, and blocked their path.

Staring at the man whose expression was as cold as stone, Emily felt her anger ignite, her pale cheeks burning crimson.

“What do you want now, Andrew?” she snapped.

A trace of mockery curled Andrew’s lips. “Did I ever say last night’s incident was over?”

Emily’s brow furrowed. “What do you want from me?”

“Alice Anderson has been arrested,” Andrew said coolly. “You need to come to the station and cooperate with the investigation.”

Without warning, Emma yanked Emily behind her, shielding her like she’d done a hundred times when Emily was a child. The same middle-aged woman who used to fawn over the Lane family, always polite and eager to please, now glared furiously at Andrew, pointing a defiant finger at his face.

“I don’t care who you are! You’re not going to bully Emily anymore. Police? What police? We don’t recognize you or your threats. Stop trying to scare us!”
