The line between illusion and reality slowly blurred as Isabella Austin’s gentle smile came into focus. “Andrew, how was my playing?” she asked softly.
Andrew Lane’s features relaxed a little, the corners of his mouth almost curving into a smile. “It was wonderful,” he replied.
Isabella let out a light laugh. “Your staff always say it’s impossible to get a compliment from you, but whenever it’s me, you never hold back.”
Andrew’s voice was quiet but firm. “It’s late. You should get some rest.”
But Isabella shook her head, lips pressed together in a stubborn line. “I think I’ll stay up a bit longer. The Starlight Piano Competition is only two months away. I really ought to practice some more.”
Andrew walked over, lowering his gaze. The gentle moonlight streaming through the window painted his face in soft silver, accentuating his calm, handsome features. His tone was gentle. “You’ll have plenty of time to practice tomorrow.”
Isabella hesitated, then finally broke into a smile, her eyes crinkling with amusement. “Alright, since you insist, I’ll call it a night.”
Andrew turned slightly, holding out his hand to her.
Isabella paused, then her smile grew even brighter as she placed her hand in his. “So considerate, Andrew. You always know when to take care of me.”
He opened the door for her. “Go on. Get some rest now.”
She nodded and waved at him with a grin. “Goodnight, Andrew.”
He made a soft sound of acknowledgment, his gaze lingering briefly on the piano room before he turned away.

Meanwhile, Emily Blair and Elizabeth Wilson finally arrived at their destination after a two-hour drive—Elizabeth’s friend’s house.
By the time they pulled up, darkness had settled over the countryside. Elizabeth’s friend, Ashley Miller, greeted them at the door. True to her easygoing nature, Ashley was warm and welcoming, unfazed by the arrival of a stranger. She ushered Emily in with open arms.
Emily set down the fruit and chicken she’d brought in the living room, speaking in a gentle voice. “Sorry to bother you so late. We planned to get a hotel in town, but it seems they’re all closed for the season.”
Ashley waved off her concerns. “Oh, it’s no trouble at all. The hotels didn’t just close for the season—they went out of business. Too few visitors these days. They just couldn’t keep afloat.”
