My Great Escape Led Me to You novel Chapter 227

Andrew Lane’s dark eyes lingered on her for a few seconds before he turned and walked out.

Alex White’s brow was furrowed tight, his eyes clouded with uncertainty. When he saw Andrew leaving, he followed suit.

Suddenly, Alex stopped, casting a warning look at Emily Blair. “By the way, if the police investigation finds out it was your fault, you owe Isabella a real apology. Sincere. No excuses.”

Emily met his stare, fearless, and replied evenly, “Of course.”

With that, she lay back down and pulled the covers over herself. “Please leave.”

From the moment Andrew Lane and Alex White had entered, the hospital room had fallen into a hush, and even after they left, nothing changed. Emily lay there, eyes closed, but she could feel the weight of everyone’s gaze pressing down on her.

Several quiet minutes passed before whispers and the soft rustle of movement began to fill the room again. Maybe it was the tension in the air, but their voices were much softer now, nothing like the chatter from before.

Emily listened to their murmurs, unable to make out if they were talking about her or not. Either way, sleep wouldn’t come. With a sigh, she opened her eyes and sat back up.

That small gesture was enough to silence the room again. It took her a while to notice—everyone was watching her, waiting for her next move. She raised her head, her expression calm. “Don’t mind me,” she said quietly. “Go on with whatever you were doing.”

Her words didn’t seem to help. They only traded uneasy glances, nobody answering, nobody speaking, even their hands stilled mid-motion.

Emily didn’t have the energy to care. She lowered her gaze, staring at her fingers as her mind spun in circles, lost and unsure of what to do next.

Then, a woman’s voice broke through the silence. “You’re a student at Northwood Academy, aren’t you?”

Emily looked up slowly to see a middle-aged woman standing by the bed two spots down, a shiny red apple in one hand, the peel still dangling from it. The woman’s eyes were curious, almost searching.
