Isabella Austin’s face went rigid, her eyes widening in alarm as she stared at Emily. But the moment she noticed Emily Blair’s scrutinizing gaze, she quickly composed herself, her features smoothing into practiced calm. Her voice was soft and measured.

“Emily, let’s talk. Alone.”

Emily put her phone away without hesitation. “Alright, let’s go.”

Andrew Lane stepped up beside Isabella, grabbing her wrist with a firm hand. His voice was low and tense. “What’s this about?”

Though his words were for Isabella, his eyes stayed fixed on Emily.

There was a chill in Andrew’s gaze, something steely and cold that pressed down on Emily, heavy as a stone. Even with his detached demeanor, she felt the force of his presence, an unspoken warning that lingered in the air.

Emily’s brows drew together as she met his eyes, her gaze clear and unwavering.

Isabella gently patted his hand where it circled her wrist and spoke in a soothing tone. “It’s alright, Andrew. I’m just going to talk to Emily. I’ll be back soon, don’t worry.”

Isabella bit her lip, her eyes turning soft and pleading. Her voice dropped to a gentle whisper. “It’s between me and Emily. Let me handle it, okay? Trust me, Andrew. I can take care of it.”

Part of her was secretly thrilled that Andrew was so protective, but this situation was different. If he ever found out what she’d done, she could only imagine how far she’d fall in his eyes.

If it were anything else, she’d gladly let Andrew step in. But not this time. She couldn’t risk him getting involved.

Alex White, still uneasy, spoke up. “Isabella, don’t let her trick you.”

Isabella flashed a reassuring smile. “Relax, you’re all just worrying too much. I’ll be fine—I’ll be back before you know it.”
