Emily Blair backed up to the doorway and pulled out her phone, opening Amelia Lane’s social media.
Just as expected, there it was—Amelia’s latest post, already racking up over three thousand comments. Word had spread fast; by now, nearly the whole school must’ve seen it.
Without hesitation, Emily deleted the post.
Amelia lunged at her, and Emily handed the phone back without missing a beat.
Amelia’s mouth dropped open, ready to spit venom, but she never got the chance.
A sharp crack split the air.
Emily’s hand left a pale red imprint across Amelia’s cheek, turning her head to the side.
Isabella Austin hurried over, steadying Amelia and furrowing her perfectly shaped brows. “Ms. Blair, why would you do something like that?”
Emily met her gaze, calm and unwavering. “Isabella, you know exactly why. No need to play innocent.”
Isabella looked at her for a moment, then burst out laughing. “Oh? And what is it I know? That you’re a high schooler skipping class to shack up with a guy in a hotel?”
Amelia jerked her head up, eyes blazing. “You’re the one who can’t respect yourself. What’s wrong with me exposing the truth?”
“You’re just trash, Emily. Someone finally caught you red-handed, and now you come in here making a scene?”
Emily snorted. “Let me tell you something. With the number of views and likes your post got, I could sue you for defamation. You don’t know the first thing about decency or manners—no wonder even your own mother would be ashamed.”
Without a second thought, Emily raised her hand again.
Another crisp smack sounded.
But this time, her strike landed not on Amelia’s face, but on Isabella’s arm.
Isabella winced, her brows pinching together as she looked down. When she looked up again, her eyes were already brimming with tears, her expression heartbreakingly fragile.
“Ms. Blair, why would you hit Amelia?”
A sly smile flickered in Amelia’s eyes before she erupted in outrage. “Emily, I could put up with you hitting me, but why did you hit Isabella? What did she ever do to you?”
Emily frowned. “I didn’t—”
“Emily Blair.”
