My Great Escape Led Me to You novel Chapter 377

It was Andrew Lane.

He stepped forward, making as if to leave.

Sensing his approach, Emily Blair’s heart skipped a beat, her brows knitting tighter. She shifted a little to the side, instinctively giving him space.

The apartment’s living room was cramped, barely enough room between the coffee table and the couch. With Andrew’s tall frame, standing up made the space feel even more crowded.

Emily simply assumed he was headed for the door. She and Emma George happened to be right in the way, blocking his path. To speed things along, Emily stepped aside, lowering her head as she tugged Emma’s arm, signaling with a glance for Andrew to just go.

Andrew’s footsteps faltered. He stopped directly in front of her.

Emily waited for him to move past, but time dragged on and he didn’t budge.

Her frown deepened. She looked up, exasperated. “Why aren’t you—”

Suddenly, a shadow loomed. The familiar, sharp scent of pine crashed over her, and Andrew surged forward with a force that felt almost predatory, as if he meant to snuff out all the space around her.

Emily’s heart leapt into her throat. Instinctively, she stepped back, forgetting the couch behind her. Her calf slammed hard into the edge. The leg she’d injured earlier was already weak, and now her good leg lost its balance too.

In a split second, she toppled backward.

Startled, she glanced up—and locked eyes with Andrew’s. His gaze was dark, intense, like a stormy sea pulling her under, wild currents threatening to drown her whole.

This old apartment had seen better days. When she’d first moved in, the living room light was so dim it barely worked, so she’d replaced it with a new, glaring bulb. Now, the room was flooded with harsh white light that made her squint up at the ceiling most days.

Under that light, Andrew’s features looked even sharper, his eyes impossibly deep—impossible to read.

For a split second, Emily was transfixed, lost in his gaze.

Emma’s startled gasp snapped the moment. Andrew reached out, his arm tightening around her waist.

Emily bit her lip, the world spinning for a heartbeat as she was pulled forward, crashing straight into Andrew’s chest.

His hand pressed firmly against her back, anchoring her against him.

Her mind scrambled to process what was happening. She stared blankly at the crisp fabric of his suit, her eyes wide.
