My Great Escape Led Me to You novel Chapter 378

The sharp crack of the cane hitting the coffee table went unnoticed by everyone in the room.

Emily Blair raised her fists and pounded them, hard and relentless, against Andrew Lane’s chest. “Andrew Lane! Let me go!”

His arms locked around her waist and beneath her knees, as unyielding as stone pillars. No matter how she struggled, no matter how hard she struck him, Andrew didn’t budge an inch.

He strode forward with steady, confident steps, his jaw set and eyes growing colder and darker with every movement.

Emily glared up at him. Soon enough, her hands ached from the blows, but Andrew showed no reaction at all.

She knew exactly how much force she was using, could hear the dull, distinct thud each time her fists landed on his chest.

A cold laugh escaped her. “You’ve got quite the tolerance, don’t you?”

Andrew reached the doorway without pausing. He lowered his head just enough to look her in the eye.

Suddenly, he let out a low chuckle.

Emily scowled. “You really are insane.”

He didn’t bother to explain himself—didn’t say that, after so long seeing nothing but calm detachment in Emily’s eyes, the flicker of anger she now showed because of him stirred something inside him. Amusement, maybe. But only a little.

Behind them, Emma George hurried after, calling out in a panic, “Andrew Lane, what are you doing? I swear, I’m calling the police! I mean it, I’ll have them sort this out!”

Emily’s voice was low and steady. “Where are you taking me? What do you want?”

Andrew’s stride was long and purposeful, his voice deep and steady. “I want you to explain yourself. Every word.”

As he stepped through the doorway, Emily’s reflexes kicked in; she shot out both hands and grabbed the doorframe, clinging tight.

Andrew was forced to halt.

Emily drew a sharp breath. “Andrew, if you don’t let me go right now, I’m going to scream. The walls in this building are paper-thin—you know as well as I do, if we keep this up in the hall, the neighbors will hear everything. If I start yelling, the whole building will know; hell, maybe the next building over.”
