My Great Escape Led Me to You novel Chapter 389

Elizabeth Wilson rubbed her aching shoulder and glanced around warily. “Do you think Andrew Lane will be able to track us down like this?” she whispered.

After leaving their rented apartment, they hadn’t headed straight for the airport. Instead, they’d switched cars multiple times, winding through side streets and doubling back before finally arriving here. If Andrew Lane still managed to find them after all that, it would truly be impossible to shake him.

Emily Blair mumbled, “Probably not.”

Every step of the way, Kevin Lane had arranged for people to help them. All their detours and convoluted routes had been carefully orchestrated and concealed by his contacts. With Kevin Lane’s involvement, Andrew Lane shouldn’t be able to catch up to them so easily.

Emily trusted Kevin Lane’s capabilities, but she couldn’t help but doubt whether he’d actually keep his promise. After all, Andrew Lane was his favorite grandson—whatever Andrew wanted, Kevin would make it happen.

But what if what Andrew wanted was to find her?

Whether Kevin Lane would betray her or not, Emily had no way of knowing. All she could do was hope he’d stick to their agreement.

Elizabeth, exhausted from the nonstop running around and hauling of luggage, stopped talking. After mumbling a few words, she leaned back in her chair and drifted off to sleep, barely managing to murmur, “Wake me up when it’s time, okay?”

Emily looked over at the three of them—all already asleep.

It was the middle of the night, well past her usual bedtime, but Emily felt wide awake, her nerves humming. She kept her eyes fixed on the airport entrance.

An uneasy feeling gnawed at her, a quiet dread she couldn’t shake, pounding steadily in her chest.

Ten minutes before their boarding time, Emily decided to wake the others, making sure everyone had their IDs ready.

Just as she was about to rouse Elizabeth, an odd impulse made her look up, eyes drawn to the entrance.

Her heart slammed against her ribs; she couldn’t explain why, but she felt as if something unseen was unfolding right at that moment.

Two potted plants stood on either side of the glass doors, their leaves quivering in the cold draft. Emily’s hand hovered midair as she stared at the entrance, unable to look away, even though nothing unusual was happening—no one was coming in.

It was as if, any second now, someone would walk through those doors.
