Chapter 12
Five years of freedom, and Talia had absolutely zero interest looking back. She scooped up Isabella and turned to walk away.
Of course Trevor stepped into her path.
He looked like hell–older, worn down, with bloodshot

hadn’t slept in weeks. Part of her felt a flicker of satisfaction at that.
“Talia, do you have any idea how long I’ve been searching for you? Why do you keep moving? Why are you running from me? Why won’t you just talk to me?”
Same entitled bullshit, just different day.
“Im not running from, Trevor.” Talia’s voice was flat, emotionless. I’m living my own new life. You should try it sometime.”
She spoke to him like he was a complete stranger–which, honestly, he might as well have been.
Trevor stared at her, something desperate flickering in his eyes. Then his gaze shifted to Isabella, and when he saw that little face–a perfect mirror of Talia’s features–he went completely still.
“Talia. You really were pregnant when you left.”
His voice cracked.
“Why didn’t you tell me? Why didn’t you-
He looked dazed for a second, then suddenly frantic Come home. Both of you. I’ll do whatever it takes–we can get married tomorrow, you everything-”
He reached toward Isabella, but Talia stepped back quickly
“Trevor, are you out of your damn mind? What fantasy are you living in? I take care of my own child. I don’t need you for anything.”

“But she’s my child too!” The words ripped out of him like they were bleeding. Tve already lost five years. I can’t lose any more. Just give me one chance to fix this.”
Talia was about to tell him exactly where he could shove his second chances when Isabella piped up.
“You’re not my daddy. My real daddy is super nice and he buys me gelato and reads me stories.”
She waved her little hand behind her. “Daddy! This scary man is being mean to Mommy!”
Trevor’s face went frozen with shock. He looked past Talla as Luigi approached, a flicker of recognition in his eyes.
“Luigi fucking Marrone.” His voice was pure venom.
Talia was stunned–they knew each other?
“What the hell is this?
Luigi calmly lifted Isabells into his arms, his voice steady, “That depends. What do you want it to be?”
“Daddy!” Isabella snuggled against him happily.
Trevor’s hands clenched into fists, his face twisted with rage. He took a step forward, but Talia moved between them.
“Don’t.” Her voice could have cut glass.
“Trevor. I have my own family

Chapter 12
She took Luigi’s free hand, completing the picture of a happy family.
“That’s my kid you’re carrying around! Or were you screwing him behind my back five years ago too?”

The accusation hit like a slap, but Talia didn’t flinch. She was so done with his drama, his assumptions, his need to make everything about him…
She let him think whatever he wanted. It was easier than the truth.
