Chapter 8
The security camera footage from the Bakers‘ living room was played, exposing all their schemes in front of dozens of
cameras.

Everyone in the room gasped as Leon lifted the wine glasses again. “If you don’t believe it, we can have both glasses tested and make the results public.”
Graham’s face twisted in fury as he yelled at me, “It was you, you little traitor! You sided with outsiders to hurt your own family! You’re so young, but you’re already so brutal!”
Sandy stepped in front of me, frowning with disapproval. “Watch your words, Mr. Graham. You tried to hurt us first. Are we
not allowed to retaliate?”
Amanda complained bitterly, “I gave birth to her and raised her! She’s supposed to be on our side!”
But before she finished, the projection on the wall changed again. This time, my three brothers were shown ganging up on me, with Jade looking down coldly as she crushed my fingers underfoot.
“It’s so unlucky for you to end up with the Bakers, Mindy. There can only be one daughter here, and that’s me. You’re just an
extra.”
I lay on the floor, covered in bruises, and nobody stepped in to help.
At the same time, Graham and Amanda were seen walking past the doorway, ignoring everything happening inside.
A chill went through my spine. They had always known my brothers and Jade bullied me, and never once tried to stop it.
The room erupted in chaos as every camera turned on the Bakers, and reporters bombarded them with more questions.
While they scrambled to avoid the spotlight, Sandy was already leading me out of the hotel.
She hugged me tightly. “You’re a good girl. From now on, you’ll stay at my home. We’ll get the adoption paperwork done eventually.”
I looked forward to that day too, secretly praying for the Bakers‘ luck to get worse and worse.
After that, the Bakers really did start going downhill.
The company’s big deal fell through, and they were forced to pay massive compensation.
James and my parents were overwhelmed. Jimmy and John both got fired one after the other. The Bakers were falling apart in the chaos.
In the end, with nowhere else to turn to, they came back to the Shaw residence to beg for my help.
Graham’s eyes were heated. “You’re our lucky star! As long as you give us some luck, we can get through this!”
“We’re your biological parents! Are you really going to watch us lose everything and go hungry?” Amanda said.
Of course I wouldn’t help them. I hid behind Sandy.
