Chapter112.
As I finished speaking, my gaze fell upon the flowers before my parents’ grave. They were fresh, unwilted.
This puzzled me. Every year, before I even arrived, someone had already placed fresh blooms there.
For fifteen years, I’d wondered, but the identity of this secret visitor remained a mystery.
Just then, my company’s secretary called to inform me that the annual meeting was scheduled for the next day and that I was needed at the office.
I was confused. Today would be Leland and Caitlyn’s grand performance. Why would they possibly want me there?
Perhaps they hoped to witness my humiliation firsthand?
My resolve wavered. Then, a text notification pinged, and it was from Caitlyn.
“Kaylie, all alone at the cemetery, aren’t you? Too scared to show up at the company? We’ve got a little speech prepared for you at the annual meeting. Scared you won’t dare come?”
I knew it. They were setting a trap.
What must come, would come. Tomorrow marked my final departure. I might as well give them the spectacle they craved.
Wiping away my tears, I rushed toward the company building.
The clock neared closing time. People streamed in and out, but the deference I once commanded was replaced by sympathy.
The company buzzed with hushed speculation about Leland and Caitlyn, all eyes trying to gauge my next move.
I offered a careless smile, leaving them utterly perplexed.
Yes, I wouldn’t stoop to the melodrama of an abandoned woman-crying, making a scene, threatening suicide.
I wouldn’t cry; my tears had long since dried up, leaving behind only a heart hardened by cold reality.
I felt no restlessness, no conflict. No need to lament. I simply wanted to sever my ties with that pair of scoundrels, once and for all.
“Good evening, Ms. Perez,” someone called out.
Hello, Gina. You’re looking well. But I’m no longer your boss. I’ve transferred the company to Mr. Pearson and his new love, Caitlyn.”
Gina looked flustered, her voice tight with awkward sympathy.”Oh, I’m so sorry, Ms. Perez. Please, don’t be sad.”
