Chapter139.

The next morning.

1 I finished getting ready. Today, I’d cut my hair short. Usually, I wore it in waves, but now I gathered the shorter strands into a simple ponytail.

Td always favored dresses, clinging to some princess fantasy, but I was done with that. I slipped into a full black outfit.

Black shorts, a black T-shirt, a black mask, and a black hat.

I was saying goodbye to the old Kaylie. I just wanted to leave all the hurt behind and finally be happy.

Allen knocked and entered. Both he and Tyrell froze, clearly stunned by the sight of me.

“Awesome!” Allen exclaimed, his praise genuine. “Anya, you’re absolutely stunning. You’re still the most beautiful girl in my eyes.”

I flicked my hair back.”I need to leave the past behind, so I have to be strong.”

Tyrell’s eyes lit up. This is the brilliant mind from the University of San Francisco I told you about. By the way, Anya, this is the plan Allen and I cooked up. Today, we meet with Leland and Caitlyn regarding the Leslie Group. We’re presenting two options: Allen buys the company at a low price, integrating it as a subsidiary under the Zenith Group.”

Allen chimed in, Or, Tyrell takes over the Development Project in Mississippi. If the Leslie Group refuses to sell, their only remaining path is bankruptcy and liquidation.”

A prickle of unease traced its way up my spine. Hadn’t I already known this was how it would end?

But… if the Leslie Group became part of the Zenith Group, wouldn’t it still, in some way, belong to the Perez family?

What would Leland decide?

“Wait a minute. Can Tyrell really take on the Development Project in Mississippi?” I interjected, a strange feeling settling in my gut. Tyrell nodded. “You and Allen already invested 1.5 billion dollars into the Development Project in Mississippi. Anya, I talked it over with some friends, and they helped cover the funding. Just think of it as a loan. Pay me back when you can.”

With those words, Tyrell flashed those white teeth of his, and his smile did something to ease the knot of anxiety tightening in my chest.

I let out a laugh too, starting to say, “But I feel like…” but before I could finish, Tyrell caught my hand, his grip firm.”No ‘buts.’ You saved my life, Anya. I’d do anything for you.”

A sudden chill ran down my spine, and I snatched my hand back.
