Leland thought I was joking. He pinched my nose and agreed easily, “Alright, call me if you miss me.”

“Mm-hmm.” I nodded, but as soon as he turned to leave, tears flowed down my face.

Denise came over to hug me, her voice trembling. “I can’t believe it. He has a new lover, yet he can face you so calmly? How can he act so well?”

I wiped my tears.”Let’s not talk about it, Denise. I’m almost collapsing. Every moment with Leland makes me feel like dying.”

Denise cried out, “No. Kaylie, you still have me. Don’t say that, it really hurts my heart.”

Johan also started sobbing, “Don’t cry, Ms. Perez. I will protect you with my life.”
